Usually, for Christmas, I go for an elaborate updo, but this year I decided to opt for something a bit more simple.

I wanted to make something that is still glamorous and Christmassy but has a little bit more of a casual kind of feel. Maybe more of a hairstyle for Christmas morning or just Christmas Day and not necessarily a fancy party.

So, I went for a casual glamor look with a lot of hair on show, a lot of curls, and a pretty little bow on top. If you want to know how to create this cute Christmas hairstyle, be sure to keep on reading.

Tools and materials:

  • Hair extensions
  • Comb
  • Hair elastic
  • Heat protector spray
  • Curler
  • Bow
Adding hair extensions

1. Apply hair extensions

This look is all about volume, so I'm going to use a set of hair extensions for this to get the full effect.

Feel free to skip this step if you don't want to wear hair extensions.

Make sure not to apply any extensions to the top of your hair, just underneath. Also, save a couple of strips that you will need later.

Combing hair

2. Comb hair

Next, comb the extensions through to try to blend them in.

Tying a ponytail

3. Tie a ponytail

Now part your hair by taking the hair from right in front of your ears to the top of your head, creating a triangle on top of your head.

Comb that back, and then tie it in a ponytail with an elastic.

Clipping hair up

4. Clip up hair

Clip the ponytail away while you work on the rest of your hair.

Adding heat protector

5. Spray heat protector

Spray some heat protector on the back part of your hair.

Curling hair

6. Curl hair

Then separate the bottom part of your hair into two layers; tie up the top part.

Take a curling iron (I have a 25-millimeter one) and curl all your hair away from your face, so that all of the curls are in the same direction.

When you’ve finished curling the bottom later, curl the rest of the bottom part of your hair.

Curling hair

7. Attach the extensions

Take the extra strip of extensions and wrap it around the base of your ponytail.

Then, curl your hair with the extensions in them.

When done, run your fingers through your hair to separate out the curls and blend everything in a bit better.

Adding hair accessory

8. Add a bow (or other hair embellishment)

Now it is time to embellish the ponytail.

There are a couple of things you can do, if you're going for more of a glam look, you could opt for a ponytail cuff.

You just pull the hair elastic around the ponytail and then clip the cuff around the ponytail.

And that looks something like this, it makes it really easy to hide the hair extensions.

Adding ribbon

But if you're going for more of a casual look which is what I'm going for, you can use a ribbon.

I chose a festive silver one. Grab the ponytail, wrap the ribbon around it a couple of times, and then tie it into a bow.
