Applying Cream Blush? Read This Dewy Skin Makeup Tutorial First
Cream blush can give you a dewy, fresh, natural look if you apply it correctly. You’ll find this dewy skin makeup tutorial especially helpful if you have mature skin and live in a wintery climate that, combined with indoor heating, can be drying to your skin.
Let's get started on how to apply cream blush for that dewy look.
Tools and materials:
- Cream blush
- Dewy setting spray
- Stipple makeup brush or beauty sponge
1. Use the right blush type
There are lots of different kinds of blush, including mousse, cream-to-powder, and liquid. Those all have a purpose, but this tutorial is all about looking dewy, so pure cream blush is what will do that the best.
2. Use the right cream blush
You need to select a cream blush that isn’t sticky. You can easily test your cream blush by lightly tapping it with your fingertip. Take note of whether there’s a bit of a tacky feel as you remove your fingertip.
The problem with cream blushes that are a bit sticky is that they don't set all that well and are more difficult to apply.
If your blush isn’t going on smoothly, then it will end up looking patchy. Often, stick blushes have the problem of being a touch sticky.
3. Apply your blush correctly
One way to apply cream blush is with a large stippling brush. A brush gives you a more even precise application. Use a stippling brush that has synthetic bristles in different lengths. Natural bristles absorb the blush, and you don’t want to happen.
Tap the stippling brush in the blush and start brushing it on at the apple of your cheek and work out and upwards toward your hairline at the top front of your ear. Start with a light hand and build it up until you’ve got the depth of shade you want.
You can also use a beauty sponge to apply your cream blush. Make the sponge slightly damp and wring it out well. Make sure to use a new clean brush, not one you’ve used for other makeup.
Dip the brush into the cream blush to pick up some blush and then apply it to your cheek using a tapping or pouncing motion. The beauty sponge allows for even more precision than the stippling brush but requires a lighter touch.
4. Think outside the box (or your cheeks)
Use the same tool you used for applying the cream blush to your cheeks to add a little to your forehead.
Particularly if you are fair-skinned and have no tanning opportunities, applying a bit of blush to your forehead gives that sun-kissed glow.
5. Don’t powder
Using a setting powder over your blush will take away the dewiness you’ve just added to your face. Instead of setting power, look for a dewy setting spray. Pull your hair out of the way and mist it all over your face.
