How to Create DIY Abstract Nail Art Using the String Pull Technique
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to do DIY abstract nail art with string. All you’ll need is some string or sewing thread and you’re ready to start making some easy, beautiful designs. Let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Gel polish
- String or sewing thread
- LED lamp
- Aluminum foil
1. Apply one coat of gel polish
Apply one coat of your base color and cure under an LED lamp.
2. Apply a second layer
Apply a second coat of that same color so you get a more opaque color, but this time don’t cure.
3. Coat string in nail polish
Next, lay down three different colors on a sheet of aluminum foil and place a line of string or sewing thread inside of it. Move and rotate the string around to make sure all sides are evenly coated. Make sure it’s really saturated, otherwise, the pull won’t look good.
4. Place the string
Place the string on the still-wet second layer of gel polish
5. Pull to get your design and then cure
Pull the string off the nail however you like until you get the kind of abstract nail art that you like. Play around with this and get creative, then cure your nails for 30 seconds under a 48w LED lamp.
Tip: If you’re doing this on your real nails, it’s a good idea to protect the skin with liquid latex.
6. Apply top coat and then cure
Apply a layer of top coat to secure the design and then cure again for 30 seconds.
That’s it! This DIY nail art is so easy to do and makes for some pretty unique nails. Every nail is different and you can experiment with different effects by placing and pulling the string in different directions.
