When mornings get hectic, who doesn’t love the quick, all-on-one help of a good beauty balm? Beauty balm has really made it’s mark on the beauty industry over the past decade and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s so versatile and convenient that if you aren’t using one yet, I totally recommend giving one a try! Just swipe it on in place of your facial lotion and your good to go.

The purpose of a beauty balm cream is to offer your skin great hydration, color correction, light coverage, sunscreen, and any extra benefits within each product. Some are tailored to fight future breakouts, reduce wrinkles and other signs of aging, improve skin tone or texture, and so on. For today’s little tutorial, we’ll be adding natural pigment to your existing facial lotion. Easy right? This way, you still get all the benefits of the lotion you love with a little extra pigment and natural coverage.

Before we dive into the process, let’s talk about face lotions first. I love a natural lotion that offers great hydration during the colder months. My skin is naturally super dry and sensitive so the more moisture, the better. Each night, I use a witch hazel toner (read the DIY HERE) and apply a rich lotion. Here are a few natural face lotions that don’t break the bank:

This beauty tutorial really is so easy that I almost feel silly creating a post about it. To make your own beauty balm, you only need two ingredients: The facial lotion you use every day and Cocoa Powder.

Start by putting your facial lotion in a small bowl. Slowly sprinkle just a little Cocoa Powder and mix. The smallest amount of cocoa powder will make a big difference in the hue of your lotion so be sure to only add a little at a time. Rub the tinted lotion into the back of your hand to test the color and experiment until you have a flattering hue.

Viola! You are done! Now apply to clean, dry skin to blur imperfections and even skin tone. To store, you can pour the lotion right back into it’s original container.

Note: If the idea of rubbing cocoa powder on your face just isn’t your style, you can always mix a little bit of your favorite foundation as well. You will need more foundation (start with 1 part foundation and 3 parts lotion) but will still be saving time in the morning and have made your own, unique beauty product.
