You’re juggling many things but desperately need a cup of coffee. How marvelous would it be to have a coffee cup holder that you can wear? Brilliant right? And these make perfect gifts! Here’s how to make a DIY coffee cup holder today!

Tools and materials:

  • Free coffee cup holder sewing pattern
  • Outer layer fabric 1 piece 11⅛″ × 3¾″ and 1 piece for the strap 1⅝″ × 20″
  • Lining fabric 1 piece 11⅛″ × 3¾″
  • Fusible interfacing
  • Sewing machine
  • Needle and thread
  • Pen
  • Measuring tool
  • Clips or pins
  • Scissors

1. Make the pattern

Download the free pattern and print it. Cut the fabric and fusible interfacing to match the pattern.

2. Iron the interfacing

Iron the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the exterior fabric.

3. Sew the fabric

Place the two fabrics right sides together.

4. Sew the strap

Fold the long strip of fabric into thirds and then in half. Clip into place. Sew the strap on both sides as close to the edge as possible.

5. Attach the strap

Mark the fabric for strap placement.

Clip the strap into place on the marked areas. Sew horizontal stitches to secure the strap in a loop in place.

6. Sew the coffee sleeve

Place the lining on top of the fabric with the straps so their right sides are together. Tuck the straps inside and pull them through to the other side. Sew the lining to the exterior fabric with a ⅜-inch seam allowance.

Open the seams with your fingers and make sure to flatten them as much as possible. Then fold the coffee cup holder pattern in half right sides together. Clip in place. Sew at ⅜ inch.

Iron all the seams as flat as possible. 

Tucking the strap inside

Tuck the strap inside. Pinch the lining up to the exterior piece and pin it in the center. Make sure to keep the straps tucked in and be careful not to sew them to the body.


Sew across the two layers around the edge, leaving a 1½-inch opening unsewn.

Flip the coffee sleeve inside out. Iron the entire piece. Blind stitch the small opening closed.
