Supplies for DIY Genie Costume

The plastic lamp is a fun prop and looks just like the one from the Aladdin movie. It only cost about $5 and my daughter can use it as a toy after Halloween.

Directions

Begin by looping the rope around your waist and cut enough length that you can pull it back and forth between your legs a couple of times. You should need about 6 ft of tulle that is 6 inches wide.

Take the end of the tulle and stuff it in the opening of the lamp. Feed it though and tie a knot in the end so that it cannot be pulled through the lamp. I took a small piece of polyester fill and tied it in the tulle, then secured it with a pipe cleaner so that the tulle would not slip out of the lamp.

Begin gluing small pieces of fluff to the tulle. I picked off cotton ball sized pieces and glued them to the tulle with a hot glue gun.

Work your way up the piece of tulle making the fluff thicker and wider as you go. This will make the “smoke” coming out of the lamp look more realistic.

Add enough fluff so that the length of “smoke can go back and forth between your legs a few times and wrap around your waist.

Attach the base of the lamp to your shoe. I pushed it between the straps of my sandals.

Pin the “smoke” in place and wrap it around your waist.

Start granting wishes!
