My fellow jewelers, today we're taking memory wire and turning it into two pairs of marquise earrings in that gorgeous oval shape.

We’ll be making one pair of heart earrings and another pair with little colorful beads.

These earrings are so simple and easy, and I'm super excited to show you how to make them. Let’s jump on in!

Tools and materials:

  • Round nose pliers
  • Long nose pliers
  • Electrician wire strippers
  • Bail pliers
  • Chasing hammer and block bench
  • File
  • Headpins
  • Memory wire
  • 2 Heart beads
  • 10 - 3mm Beads
Cutting wire

Heart dangle earrings

1. Cut the wire

Take the end of your memory wire (it looks a bit like a slinky) and with some electric cutter tools, cut a bit less than a whole circle.

Bending the wire

2. Bend the wire

Next, take some bale pliers and put the wire between the two box parts at the bottom. Push the wire down on the side as far as it will go.

Cutting wire

3. Cut the second wire

Cut a second wire and then line the two up and trim them to make sure they are exactly the same size.

You can also put the bead on the wire to ensure that you are happy with the length of it with the bead on there.

Filing edges

4. File the edges

File down the rough edges so that the earrings are smooth to put in your ear.

Making loop

5. Make the loop

We’re going to use round nose pliers and make a medium-sized loop. Place the wire in the pliers and then bend it outward.

Making loop

Proceed to curl the wire in. As you bend the loop in, you usually just want both sides of the wire to touch.

But with memory wire, if you just did it to where they touch, there still be a gap, so try to bend it so it goes past the wire on the other side.

Then bring it back up slightly so it just touches the wire and there isn’t a gap in it.

Bending headpins

6. Bend the headpins

To make the dangle part of the earrings, put your headpins on your beads. Then cut the headpin and make a medium size loop at the end.

Don’t make the loop too small because it won’t dangle properly.

To make the loop, take your round nose pliers, bend the wire back at a 90-degree angle, and then take your pliers and curl it around.

Don’t curl it all the way yet because you want to put it on your earring.

Attaching the dangle

7. Attach the dangle to the earrings

Next, attach the dangles to the earrings.

Once they’re on your earring, bend the wire around the rest of the way until the two sides of the loop touch, and there isn’t a gap.

Green beaded earrings

Now we’re going to make beaded earrings, and compared to the heart earrings, they are a lot shorter.

But you can do so many different things with each design. You can make the two sides of the wire the same length, or the back of the wire shorter than the front, or longer than the front.

I’m designing mine, so there is a lot less wire on the back end.

Cutting wire

1. Cut the wire

Take your memory wire and do the same thing as before but cut a little bit less.

Bending wire

2. Bend the wire

Take your bail pliers and bend the wire, this time more toward the back end so that the back is longer.

Push the wire down on the side to bend it.

Cutting wire

3. Cut the second wire

Proceed to bend the other earring and then line them up against each other to ensure they are the same size. Trim them down if need be.

Adding beads

4. Add beads

Take five tiny 3mm beads and place them on the wire.

Hammering ends

5. Hammer the ends

Once you’ve put the beads on, we’re going to flatten out the ends. Flattening out the ends spreads out the wire and makes sure the beads stay on.

Push the beads up to the top, so they’re out of the way, grab your hammer and metal slab and beat the ends until they’re flat.

You will know that your wire is flat enough when the beads don’t come off the ends.
