Today, I’m finally going to be showing you my whipped hair butter. This body and hair butter is my secret weapon, and I’ve been using it since the ninth grade for pretty much everything. Chapstick, shaving cream, face moisturizer, dark spot fader—you name it!

This stuff is so good, so I’m super excited to get to share it with you all. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Mango butter
  • Butter knife
  • Avocado oil
  • Sweet almond oil
  • Pot
  • Stand or hand mixer
  • Essential oils or natural fragrance
  • Glass jar
Measuring mango butter

1. Add 2 cups of mango butter to the mixing bowl

Mango butter absorbs into the skin nicely without leaving an oily film like cocoa or shea butter.

Mango butter has been proven effective in healing acne-prone skin, growing healthier hair, healing burns and minor bodily wounds, and reducing fine lines/wrinkles.

Chopping up the mango butter chunks

2. Chop up mango butter chunks

Use a butter knife to chop up the larger mango butter pieces into smaller ones so it’ll be easier to melt.

Adding avocado oil

3. Add 1.5 cups of avocado oil to the mixing bowl

Avocado oil is super lightweight and moisturizing and pairs very nicely with the mango butter, but you can substitute it with coconut or sweet almond oil.

Avocado oil helps prevent skin damage from sun rays, reduces inflammation, and aids in tons of skin problems like acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles.

Adding sweet almond oil

4. Add 2 teaspoons of sweet almond oil

Almond oil is known for its free-radical fighting abilities, is anti-inflammatory, and boosts immunity.

Keep in mind that the amount of oil you add will determine the consistency of your butter. If you want a light consistency, add more oil. If you want a thicker/tougher consistency, add less oil.

I probably would have added more sweet almond oil, but I only had two teaspoons left!

Boiling water to melt the butter

5. Boil water

Fill up a pot with water and bring it to a boil on low-medium heat.

Melting the ingredients in a double boiler

6. Melt your ingredients

After the water boils, place your mixing bowl on top of the pot to create a double boiler and stir as it melts.

We’re melting our ingredients down so our DIY whipped hair butter doesn’t come out crummy or rough when we whip it. We want it to have a very smooth application.

Refrigerating the DIY whipped hair butter

7. Refrigerate

Let it sit off the heat for five minutes, wrap it in plastic wrap or foil, then refrigerate for about 45 minutes to an hour until it is semi-solid.

8. Mix

Pour all of the ingredients into a mixer bowl, and make sure you get everything out, so scrap the sides. Use a stand or hand mixer to mix. Start on the lowest setting possible and work your way up as the mixture gets fluffy and turns white.

Adding fragrance to the body and hair butter

9. Add fragrance

Add 10-15 drops of essential oils or a natural fragrance, which is what I’m using, then thoroughly mix in.

10. Add mixture to a jar

Get a little glass jar, and pour the mixture into it. It can get pretty messy, so grab the napkins.

Can you use body butter on hair?
