This easy homemade sugar scrub is the perfect exfoliator that gives you smooth, moisturized skin! Homemade sugar scrub is easy to make, inexpensive, versatile and only requires two ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry!

If you’re like me and you spend your summers in shorts and a t-shirt, or clothes that cover less surface area than in the cooler months, you’ve probably noticed a few dry patches on your skin that are less than desirable. Exfoliation is something that has become part of my weekly routine because it makes a big difference for my skin. Using a sugar scrub as an exfoliator helps to remove dead skin cells and moisturizes at the same time. That’s why it’s great to use in instances where you’ll be getting a spray tan in the near future, if you’ve gotten a sunburn and your skin is peeling or really any time your skin feels a little rough. This sugar scrub can also double as a lip scrub or a foot scrub!

Now the question is, why would you even want to make your own sugar scrub when you can just buy some from the store? The reasons are simple. By making your own homemade products, like this sugar scrub, you know what ingredients go into them, it’s cost effective and you can customize them to your liking! If you’re curious about how to get started with making your own homemade products, I have an  easy guide to help you out! More than likely, you won’t have to buy anything special for this project because you can probably find the ingredients in your pantry already!

TOOLS YOU MAY NEED

  • Small mixing bowl
  • 1/4 cup measuring cup
  • Mixing spoon

INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 cups of sugar (I used  organic cane sugar)
  • 1/4 cup almond oil (see notes for alternatives)
  • 10 drops essential oil of your choice (optional)

HOW TO MAKE EASY HOMEMADE SUGAR SCRUB

In a small bow, add sugar, almond oil (or fractionated coconut oil) and your favorite essential oil(s).

Mix the sugar scrub thoroughly with a mixing spoon.

Transfer the homemade sugar scrub to an airtight container, like a mason jar, and store for up to 6 months to 1 year.

HOW TO USE HOMEMADE SUGAR SCRUB

  • With clean hands, scoop out about a quarter size amount of your homemade sugar scrub and begin massaging it onto the area of concern. If you're using this on a large part of your body, you'll need more.
  • You can also apply this to a shower glove or brush for a little extra exfoliation.
  • Massage on the area of concern for a minute or two and then rinse off the sugar.
  • You'll be left with a layer of moisturizing oil that will help keep your skin soft!

NOTES

  • You can substitute whatever sugar you have on hand. White sugar, coconut sugar and brown sugar all will work in this recipe!
  • If you don't have almond oil, you could use coconut oil (regular or fractionated), olive oil, avocado oil, et cetera.
  • I like to use lemon essential oil in this recipe, but you can use whatever essential oil or oils you like. You can also omit all together.
  • If you don't have essential oils on hand, but want a scent, you could add in vanilla extract or even something like dried lemon peel or zest. If you use fresh zest, be sure to use the sugar scrub within a week. I would also store the scrub in the refrigerator.
  • You can easily double or triple this recipe as well if it's something you use a lot of!
  • Homemade sugar scrub is great for a gift too!
