It’s been a while since I posted because sometimes life gets in the way of things you’d rather do. Things seem to have slowed down so I’ve finally been able to start crafting again. I decided to turn a stained pillow case into these DIY Embroidered Mittens and I love how they turned out. I made these for my daughter Scout, and she surprisingly loved them. She’s at the age where she’s discovering her own style, and it’s the opposite of anything I like. We’ve had some blowouts over clothes, but I’ve given up that losing battle with her. 11 is a tough age!

What you need: Patterned fabric, scissors, embroidery floss, needle, super glue

You don’t have to use a pillow case, any thick, patterned fabric will work.

Start by tracing your hands onto the back of the fabric. You’ll want to make the mittens larger than your hands, about half an inch.

Cut out the mittens.

Now you can add your embroidery to all 4 mittens pieces.

I stitched along the patterns on the fabric, but you can embroider the mittens however you’d like.

Turn the gloves right side in, and start stitching together. I would’ve sewn this with my sewing machine, but it’s not working properly at the moment. I left about half and inch of fabric at the bottom of the gloves. Fold the fabric and stitch it to the inside of the mitten. Since this fabric isn’t stretchy, this allows more room to get the gloves on and off.

When the gloves are sewn together, turn them right side out.

Part of me wishes I would’ve saved these and given them to her as a Christmas gift, but it’s already getting cold here in Colorado, so they’ll get some good use.
