Tools and materials:
This everyday makeup routine is supposed to feel fresh. Rather than looking at it with the mentality of covering up, layering over and recreating, we’re going to look at what is already there as the end game.
1. Protect your skin
Start by applying a thin layer of face serum. Then add a layer of SPF moisturizer to your face and neck to protect your skin.
2. Apply skin tint
Be clever about your makeup game and consider the state of your skin at different times during your cycle. For example, during ovulation, the skin produces more oils, so opt for a matte foundation.
Choose your optimal skin tint product based on your cycle and apply it evenly to your face and neck.
If you think you want full coverage, start with about half the amount you would need to do that and blend it out with a sponge.
Once you’ve done this, you can decide if you need to add more or not.
3. Brighten under your eyes and set
If you have dark discoloration under your eyes, apply a bit of concealer under the inner and outer corners. Then blend the concealer with a sponge using a pressing motion, leaving the lash line clean.
Then set the under eye makeup with powder on a velour makeup puff. This will keep your concealer looking fresh all day.
4. Apply illuminator and blushes
Apply a cream, illuminator product where you’d apply blush.
Next, before blending this, apply a layer of cream blush to the same area. Tap it in with your fingertips.
Then use a stippling brush to add a layer of powder blush. This brush is an excellent choice, especially for beginners. It’s dense at the base but the end only picks up a small amount of product, making it easy to blend.
5. Perfect your brows
If you’re sitting in a chair, uncross your legs and sit evenly to distribute your weight. Lift up your eyebrow pencil and examine the symmetry of your brows. I can see that my left brow can go a bit higher to match my right brow.
By working strategically to bring back symmetry to the brows, you’ll be able to make your brows look great without blindly and unnecessarily filling out the opacity of each.
6. Apply bronzer
I like using products for multiple purposes, so apply bronzer to your eyelids with a blending shadow brush.
Next, use a stippling brush to apply the bronzer to your cheekbones, forehead and along the sides of your nose.
7. Apply highlighter
Apply a highlighter powder for a brightening effect.
If you’re dealing with acne at the time you apply this makeup look, avoid using highlighter in those areas as it will amplify the texture.
8. Apply eyeliner pencil
Line your lower lash lines with an eyeliner pencil that matches your hair color. Then use a shading brush to gently blend it in. If you’d like to lengthen your face, only apply eyeliner to the upper lash lines.
9. Apply lip pencil
Apply a lip pencil in a color that’s very similar to your natural lip color. Line your lips twice, so that it’s a little more opaque than you actually want it to be. Then smudge it carefully with your fingertip.
10. Apply lip color
Apply a lip color that matches your blush tone.
I opted not to use mascara to keep this look long lasting and smudge-free.
Reusing the same products and colors within this easy makeup look for beginners will help this look ride the line between an untouched look to something glamorous yet super natural looking.
