It’s just awful when you break a nail. Especially a beautifully manicured one. But it happens. So, here’s a tutorial that will show you some ways of repairing a broken nail using things you already have in your home. Follow these steps and your broken nail will look as good as new!

Tools and materials:

  • Nail glue or superglue
  • Teabag
  • Small brush (for applying glue)
  • Nail file/Nail buffer
  • Base coat
  • Nail polish
  • Top coat
Can you put superglue on a broken nail?

1. Glue your broken nail

Apply superglue or nail glue directly to the break. Hold the broken nail in place where it should be until the glue dries.

Then apply another coat of glue, but this time pay special attention to the sides of your nail where the break is. That is the spot that is most likely to be the point of re-breaking.

2. Bandage your broken nail

Cut a small piece of fabric out of a teabag.

Put some more glue onto the break on your nail and lay the tea bag on top of the glue, like a bandage.

3. More glue!

Apply another layer of glue on top of the teabag bandage to make it fully adhere to your nail. All of this glue will help strengthen the surface of your broken nail in preparation for the next step.

4. Buff and file your nail

Use a nail file to buff the top and file the edges of your nail. All of that glue on your nail means you are actually buffing and filing the glue, and not your damaged, fragile nail directly.

5. Apply polish

First, apply a base coat to your nail. This will give your nail a nice smooth surface. Now you can apply your nail polish and a topcoat.

I use an end paper. Used for wrapping perm rods. Porus and strong.

I love this ‘fix’….but for years I have used a dryer sheet; be sure the dryer sheet has been used enough to get all the chemicals out and is soft. 👍🏼
