I don’t like leaving my laptop standing around on the table when I’m not using it. Somehow, it always gets scratched or picks up a mysterious stain. It also catches dust as if it has a magnet for it.

That’s why I like using laptop sleeves. They protect the computer and they look pretty neat! Plus, they’re great for when you need to put your laptop together with a bunch of other things in the same bag because it will keep the mean machine safe.

You can make a laptop sleeve easily and quickly, and you’re about to learn how.For the fun step by step tutorial to : https://hellosewing.com/diy-laptop-sleeve-pattern/

  • sample measures given at the photo above

Cut out the fabric

To get the dimensions for your fabric piece, you’ll need to do some math. Don’t worry, it’s easy!

First, measure out the thickness of your laptop when it’s closed. Then measure out how long the longest edge is. Add those two together, including a bonus of two inches. This will be the width of the fabric piece.

To get the length, measure out the shortest edge of the laptop. Add that to the laptop thickness, and additional two inches. Multiply the number you got by 2.5 and you’ll have the length of your fabric piece.

  • WIDTH OF FABRIC = A + C + 2″
  • LENGTH of FABRIC = 2.5 x (B + C) + 2″

Cut out a piece from the main fabric and the lining in the measurements you got.

Stack the fabrics

Place the lining over the main fabric with their right sides facing each other. Measure and mark two inches around each corner on one of the short sides. Cut off the corners of both fabrics according to the markings.

Start sewing the laptop sleeve

Align the edges of the fabrics and pin them together. Sew the short edge that doesn’t have clipped corners. Leave a small opening at the middle of that seam.

Unfold the fabrics and press the seam. Fold the fabric to the other side so that the right sides are facing outward.

Sew the velcro tapes in place. One should be on the lining, near the edge with the clipped corners. The other should be on the main fabric, near the short edge with normal corners. Sew through only one layer of fabric.

Finish the laptop sleeve

Fold the base with normal corners so that it forms the pocket for your computer. Make sure that the laptop can fit into the folded section.

Pin the fold, but only to the lining. Bring the back main fabric to the front and fold it. All of its edges should align with the lining edges.

Pin the layers together and sew all around, leaving the short side with normal corners unstitched. Turn the sleeve through the big opening.

Stitch the small opening shut by hand and topstitch the flap.

Hi Helen, thank you for sharing your project how to with us. It came out very well and the process well described. If I were to make one I would add a shoulder strap to free up my hands.
