Tools and materials:
- Variety of fabrics for patchwork
- Fabric for lining
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Marker
- Snap or button
- Sewing machine/needle and thread
1. Patchwork
Cut out 18 squares of fabric at 3 by 3 inches. Line them up in 3 rows of 6 facing up. Sew them together attaching 1 square at a time, pressing the seams between each one.
2. Lining
When you’re done, press the seams once again, so the fabrics lays flat.
Measure and cut fabric that matches your patchwork for the lining.
3. Wristlet tab
For the wristlet tab, cut another 3 by 3-inch square of fabric and fold it in half with the wrong side facing in. Press it.
Open it and fold the sides in ¼ of the way before folding the fabric in half again. Press again, and sew a line stitch around the edges.
4. Shape
Take your patchwork fabric and fold it in half lengthwise to find the center and mark it.
Measure 2 ½ inches down the length of both sides of one end of the fabric and mark it.
Use a ruler to draw a straight line from there to the center mark from both sides.
Cut out both corners.
Use the patchwork to trace and cut out the lining as well.
5. Start sewing
Turn the fabric and the lining right side facing in and sew the bottom straight edge together.
Open them up and pin your bracelet tab, folded in half, to the center edge of one side of the patchwork.
6. Bringing it all together
Take the seam, pull it up towards the wristlet tab, and pin it over the tab.
Bring the tip of the lining to the tip of the patchwork.
Measure a 2-inch opening on the side of the length of the bag. Sew around all the edges, leaving the 2-inch opening.
Cut the corner off the top of the triangular tip and the 2 corners below it.
Pull the bag right-side in through the 2-inch opening.
Use a paintbrush, pencil, or a knitting needle to pop out the corners.
Straighten out the fabric and iron it.
Topstitch around the entire opening of the bag, including closing the 2-inch opening.
7. Finishing touches
Lastly, add a snap or button closure, and you’re all set.
