Hey, guys! Today, I thought I’d take you along with me as I get ready and put together my Harry Potter Bellatrix Lestrange costume.

For the costume, I chose a long, black lace dress with a long, bustled skirt. Originally, I was going to be a historically ambiguous widowed ghost, but I decided to do a Bellatrix Lestrange Halloween costume instead because she’s one of my favorite, go-to costumes. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Eyeshadow
  • Contour
  • Highlight
  • Eyebrow gel
  • Lip liner
  • Lipstick
  • Setting powder
  • Mascara
  • Eyeliner
  • Curling iron
  • White hairspray
  • Hairspray
  • Brush
  • Comb
  • Hair elastic
  • Setting spray
  • Long black dress
Applying foundation

1. Apply foundation

Let’s do the Bellatrix Lestrange makeup first and start with a foundation base.

Applying concealer

2. Apply concealer

I’m applying concealer underneath my eyes.

Setting face makeup

3. Set

Now I’m setting the concealer and foundation with some powder.

Applying contour

4. Apply contour

Let’s do some contouring. I’m trying to make my jawline more square-like and accentuate the shape under my jaw.

Applying contour

Then, I’m contouring my cheekbones by drawing a line just under the bone and then blending it out with a fluffier brush.

Applying contour

I’m also contouring my nose.

Applying highlight

5. Highlight

Next, I’m applying the white highlight in my contour set along the bottom of my jaw again to make it look more prominent, almost as if I had jaw fillers.

Applying highlight

And also on my cheek above the contour.

Applying eyeshadow

6. Apply eyeshadow

Bellatrix has some red around her eyes, so I’m going to use a burgundy brownish color just under my eye on the inner corner.

Applying eyeshadow

Then using a lighter color on my entire eyelid as well as a little bit on the outer corner.

Applying eyebrow gel

7. Apply eyebrow gel

Her eyebrows are a bit thinner than mine, so I’m just going to use a bit of eyebrow gel.

Applying mascara

8. Apply mascara

I’m doing mascara first just to see what it looks like before I decide if I want to add eyeliner.

I’m brushing my lashes down because she doesn’t have super curled or noticeable top lashes.

Applying eyelashes

She does have very clear bottom eyelashes, though, so I’m definitely going to do those.

Lining lips

9. Line and fill in your lips

I’m using a darkish red lip pencil and I’m going to start by connecting the cupid’s bow. That’s a pretty big part of the Bellatrix look. I’m also overdrawing just a little bit.

Filling in lips

Then, I just fill it in.

Adding more contour

10. Apply more contour

Okay, I realized I needed more shadow in the upper corner where my brow bone and nose bridge meet, so I applied more contour there.

Doing Bellatrix Lestrange hair

11. Curl your hair

Let’s move on to the hair. Bellatrix has wavy, curly hair so I’m going to use my curling iron.

I’m going to start at the bottom and do all of the hair bit by bit, taking tiny sections.

Drawing dark mark tatoo

12. Draw a dark mark

While I wait for my hair to set before I brush it out, I want to do a dark mark tattoo. I’m just going to draw it on with eyeliner. The dark mark is a skull with a braided snake beneath it.

Backcombing hair

13. Brush and backcomb the curls

Back to the hair, I’m going to brush out the curls first and then backcomb around the top since we want maximum fluff.

Backcombing hair

I’m also backcombing the back since it’s pretty big there.

Separating curls

14. Separate curls

I also spent time separating many of the curls into tiny curl clumps.

Applying white hair spray

15. Spray on the white streak

For the white streak, I’ve got a white hairspray and I’m just going to separate a section and spray it on like that.

Tying hair into bun

16. Put the back of your hair into a bun

I decided to bunch up some hair in the back and put it into a bun.

Applying regular hairspray

17. Apply hairspray

I applied hairspray to the entire look and there we go!

Setting dark mark tatoo

18. Set the dark mark

I also used an all-night setting spray to set the dark mark since I didn’t want it to come off.

And here is the finished Bellatrix outfit! I’m actually really happy with the outfit and the dark mark, and I like how the hair and makeup turned out.
