Have you ever wanted to make your own DIY Homemade Bug Repellent for your skin before? But confused about what type of essential oils you should use? Which ones you can use? Which ones you can't use? We have put together a comprehensive post to not only help you make your own bug spray, but also help you understand why you shouldn't just use any essential oil on your skin.

If you've never used essential oils before, keep in mind that just because it's an "essential oil" it doesn't mean that it's natural and great for your skin.

Honestly, it's quite the opposite. While essential oils are great to use, if used incorrectly, they can be toxic to both yourself and your pets. That's why you have to do your research.

Does Tea Tree Oil Help Keep Bugs Away?

There are studies that support this. I have used it myself and found that it does work.

Can Tea Tree Oil Be Put on Your Skin?

No, do not put it on your skin directly. You need to use a carrier oil such as almond, olive, jojoba, or coconut. Then apply it to your skin.

How Often Do I have to Reapply?

Every 2 to 3 hours is what seems to work.

Why Can't I Use Citronella Essential Oil?

Because it's not safe for your skin. It can cause skin reactions and it's unsafe to inhale and it's very toxic for your pets. There are other essential oils, such as Lemongrass, that are better alternatives.

What Do I Need to Make This?

Step by Step Directions:

Step 1: In a medium sized measuring cup, start adding in the essential oils one at a time.

Step 3: Next add in the almond oil and stir.
