Homemade Whipped Body Scrub Recipe With Butters, Oils & Lemon Scent
In this tutorial, I’m going to share a homemade whipped body scrub recipe using natural ingredients. This body scrub has a gorgeous smell and will leave your skin feeling soft and nourished. Let’s get started.
Tools and materials:
- Lemongrass essential oil or lemongrass scented oil
- Shea butter
- Cocoa butter
- Sunflower oil
- Almond oil
- Brown sugar
- Yellow coloring
- Containers
- Jar
- Electric whisk
- Rubber spatula
Step 1 - Pour oils into a container
Start out by measuring out 150ml (5 ounces) of sunflower oil out in a beaker. Then add in 50ml (1.7 ounces) of almond oil.
Step 2 - Put butters in a separate container
Place the cocoa butter and the shea butter in a separate container.
The amounts you use of each butter are your preference. You can just play around with different amounts until you get your desired consistency.
Then, add in your oils.
Step 3 - Melt the mixture
Next, you’re going to melt the mixture so that it’s easier to work with. I melted mine by filling a glass bowl with hot water and placing the Pyrex container inside.
Step 4 - Whip the mixture
Once the oils and butters are melted, let them cool down. I placed my mixture in the freezer to help speed up this process. When it has cooled down, whip everything together with an electric whisk.
Be sure to scrape down the sides along the way with a rubber spatula to ensure that it is all included. The oils and the butter will harden up. Continue whipping until you have a thick and stiff texture.
Step 5 - Add in sugar
Now, add in half of your sugar and continue whipping. Add in the other half of the brown sugar when it’s mixed.
Again, you can add however much you want to get the consistency you desire. The sugar acts as an exfoliant in this whipped body scrub.
Step 6 - Add in coloring
I decided to add some yellow coloring to add a bit of life to this body scrub and make it look more vibrant.
Also, I’m going to add some lemongrass fragrance to the body scrub, so the yellow coloring ties in nicely with that.
Step 7 - Add in essential oil
The last step is to add in some essential oil or fragrant oil; this will give your body scrub that irresistible smell. I’m using lemongrass essential oil, but you can go with whatever scent you like.
Now that your scrub is made use your rubber spatula to put it into a jar.
This will make quite a lot of product, enough to last you six months, so you might actually have to use a number of jars. The shelf life for the body scrub is up to one year.

This homemade whipped body scrub is particularly good at softening any parts of the skin which are hard and could do with a little TLC, such as knuckles, heels, and knees.
