How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes in Under 60 Seconds for Clear Skin

Tools and materials:

• Antiseptic skin cleanser with aloe vera, or purpose-made makeup brush cleanser
• Old towel or paper towels
• Cotton swab holder with a funnel
• Dip tray (optional

1. Prepare for cleaning

If you're using an old towel, lay it out on your workspace. If you use paper towels, you’ll be better able to clearly see the dirt coming off the brushes. 

Pour your brush cleaner into the center funnel section and into the outer section of your cotton swab holder.

2. Initial dip

Dip the bristles of your brush into the cleaning solution once or twice. Avoid dunking the entire brush to prevent contamination of the cleaning liquid. 

Allow the liquid to seep through the bristles, breaking down the makeup.

4. Wipe the dirt off your brush

Run your just-dipped brush over your paper towel or old towel to remove the dirt. You will see the makeup coming off the brush onto the towel. 

The objective here is not to soak the brush and let the dirt seep into the cleaning liquid, but to let the cleaning liquid seep through the middle of your brush and break down the dirt so you can brush it off onto your paper towel.

If the brush is still dirty, repeat the dipping and wiping process until the brush is clean. Usually, one or two dips are sufficient.

5. Special attention for denser brushes

For brushes with densely packed bristles, you might need to give them a couple of extra dips to ensure the center is clean.

To test if the brush is clean, wipe it on a paper towel over your finger to check for any remaining color.

You can use the same product and technique for cleaning other makeup tools as well.

For example, pip eyebrow spoolies and other tools like spatulas into the cleaner and rub them on the towel to remove product build-up. This ensures they are also clean and hygienic.

6. Dry your brushes

The solution evaporates quickly, leaving the brushes dry in under 60 seconds. This allows you to reuse them almost immediately.
