Whilst helping the environment by finding other uses for these non edible palm nuts, I’m creating some really unique hair accessories.

I choose some Tagua nut slices that are cut into thin pieces and dyed in various lovely colours. I try and get flattish ones to cover the base of the metal hair clip blank.

Preparing the nut

I want the side that will be glued to have a rough surface to help with adhesion as they are quite smooth and want it to stay put. To give the surface a little texture I use a hand held dremel with sander attachment wheel. This easily scratches away to make a good rough patch.

Mix glue

Then it’s time to mix a two part epoxy resin glue. Equal pea sized blobs mixed well together creating a good bond. I apply quickly to the roughened surface and also the blank hair clip. Placing the slice of nut centrally to show the best side.

Sticking

It takes just a few minutes for the epoxy resin glue to set hard and then hey presto! a new eco friendly hair clip like no other!
