To start, apply your base makeup: foundation, concealer and translucent powder. The powder is key so that the bronzer won’t get stuck and clump on the foundation.

Makeup tips for women over 50

In general, the trick with contouring when you’re using products is to start lightly and you can build up the effect.

Keep in mind that when using a dark color, they can make a feature recede into the background while lighter shades bring those areas forward.

2. Add warmth and definition with bronzer

With a fluffy brush, apply the bronzer at the top of your forehead, where the sun would normally catch. Then take it just under your cheekbones, into the hollow area. Then take the bronzer back and along the jawline. When you join these parts together, it makes a 3 shape on either side of your face.

If you put too much on, don’t panic. Just wipe your brush on a tissue and then rub the clean brush over the area.

3. Add blush

Next, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks to add color after you’ve added some definition. I’m using a cream blush that turns into a powder when you apply it. You’ll see that the apples of your cheeks are the fleshy parts that appear when you smile.

Adding blush

Make a teardrop shape from the apple of your cheeks and taper it upward to give a lifted appearance.

Then blend the blush in with a brush.

4. Apply highlighter

Use highlighter to make certain features pop. Apply it along the top edge of your cheekbones.

Then pat it in place with your fingers.

Blending highlighter

Apply highlighter along your brow bones to give a lifted look above the eyes as well. Then pat it in with your finger.

Applying highlighter

Also, apply highlighter at the inner corners of your eyelids.

Applying highlighter

If you have a broader nose, apply highlighter down the center to make it appear narrower.

You can also fill in frown lines with a few dots of highlighter and pat them in.

Apply a tiny amount on your cupid’s bow and pat that in too.

5. Finishing touches

Now that we’ve added depth and a slight, dewy glow, it’s time for the finishing touches. Apply your favorite shade of lipstick.
