How to Make Fake Nails at Home With a Plastic Bottle
In this DIY, I’m going to show you how to make fake nails at home with a plastic bottle. I love doing my nails, and this DIY is a great hack to get luscious long nails that come without the price tag that store-bought ones do.
All you need is a plastic bottle and a few other simple tools, and you’re ready to begin.
Tools and materials:
- Plastic bottle
- Scissors
- Rubber band
- Cup
- Paper towel
- Nail file
- Nail adhesive
- Nail polish
1. Cut a bottle
Cut the plastic bottle just above the label.
Take the second part of the bottle, make a cut down the label and proceed to cut around the bottom of it.
Cut a strip of plastic widthways from the piece you now have and remove the label.
2. Roll and tie
Next, roll and tie this piece with a rubber band.
3. Soak in water
Pour hot water into a cup. Soak the rolled plastic for one minute and then take it out.
4. Cut the plastic
Wipe it to dry, and then cut the plastic widthways to get a strip that is slightly larger than the width of your nail.
5. Trim to size
Measure the nail size and cut the plastic to your desired shape, width and length.
6. File
File all sides to avoid sharp edges
7. Apply to nail
Take some nail adhesive, stick it onto your nail, and apply the DIY fake nail.
8. Apply nail polish
Next, apply nail polish. Repeat the process for all of your other nails, and then you’re done!

what a great money-saving idea. how long does the polish hold up on these?
That looks so interesting! You are very innovative and your nails are beautiful. Being old, I may not want long spectacular nails, but your idea would be great for any time when one of my nails has been damaged and I need to protect it (and keep my clothes from snagging!)
I am wondering why you seemed to be removing the new nail towards the end of the video. Just showing how it is possible? (I have no experience with false nails.) Also, whether or not these new nails will stand up to repeated applications of nail polish remover and new polish.
