In today’s tutorial, we’re talking about enlarged pores. This is one skin issue that a lot of us suffer from and it looks really horrible, but pores are actually good for your skin.

Pores are holes that produce oils from within the skin and these oils are extremely important because they help maintain the elasticity of your skin and prevent your skin from aging. But since pores are tiny little holes or dents inside your skin’s surface, they easily trap dirt and dust from outside and also end up getting clogged with makeup. Left without any care, they can enlarge further.

So, in this tutorial, I’m going to show you first some skincare tips, methods, and techniques to help your pores feel better and stop them from enlarging as well as show you how to make pores disappear with makeup. The makeup to cover pores is temporary because they can never go away completely, but for a short time, can make you appear totally poreless. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Cleansing oil
  • Oil-free cleanser
  • Salicylic acid cleanser
  • Cleansing face brush
  • Face mask
  • Toner
  • Primer
  • Foundation
  • Rounded fluffy brush
  • Face powder

How to make pores smaller with skincare

1. Get rid of your makeup completely before bed with a cleansing oil

The first hack is to get rid of your makeup completely before bed every single night.

I’ve been using a camomile cleansing oil every night. Oils are so good for your skin because they get deep into your pores and clean out the makeup from within, and they help break up your makeup completely.

These kinds of oils emulsify whenever they come in contact with water which makes them very easy to rinse off with water without leaving any oily residue on your face.

Using oil-free cleanser on face

2. Use oil-free and salicylic acid cleansers

The next hack is to use cleansers that are oil-free and can cleanse your skin deeply from within. I also suggest using cleaners that have salicylic acid in them to get deeper and more thorough cleans.

Using a cleansing face brush

3. Use a cleansing face brush

I absolutely love face brushes. I’ve been using one for more than two months now and I can see a huge difference in my skin.

My pores look so much better than they used to, and a cleansing brush does a great job exfoliating while being soft and gentle on the skin. It deeply cleanses your skin and manages to get the residue out of your face that’s leftover even after using a makeup remover.

Washing face with water

4. Use lukewarm water when washing and cold water when rinsing

The next hack is all about the temperature of your water.

Whenever you’re washing your face, use lukewarm water as this will help open up your pores so your cleanser can get really deep into them and clear them out.

For the final rinse, I suggest using extremely cold water. If you have ice water, that’s even better, or you can take an ice cube and run it over your pores. This will help shrink your pores.

Applying face masks to skin

5. Apply face masks

This hack is all about face masks. I really love using warming face masks on my skin. These masks heat up on your skin the second you apply them, and the warmth helps to open up your pores and clean them from the inside.

I also love using clay or mud masks, and egg-white masks are also amazing. These masks are usually tightening masks that suck out the sebum from within your skin and reduce your pores by tightening the skin.

Toner for reducing pores

6. Use toners

For the last skincare hack, I suggest using a face toner that is meant specifically for your pores. Toners are important after you cleanse because the pores are left open after cleansing or wearing a mask, so toners can help close them up.

Primer to cover pores

1. Use a primer

Make sure to get a primer that is meant for your pores. These primers help fill in your pores and make your skin appear a lot smoother and even.

Work the primer in circular motions into your pores and it’ll give you a really polished-looking finish.

Applying foundation with rounded fluffy brush

2. Apply foundation with a rounded fluffy brush

If you don’t have a primer, apply foundation directly over your pores using a rounded, fluffy brush.

This buffs the foundation and really works it into your skin. Use a circular motion and go in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions to cover your pores completely.

Close up of skin

3. Stay away from highlighters and shimmers

Never apply highlighters, or anything shimmery or illuminating over your pores because your pores are something you want to hide. If you apply a highlighter, it will accentuate them.

4. Apply powder

Try and keep your pores matte at all times. If your pores are oily, it can also accentuate them like a highlighter, so press some powder over them.
