How to Make Stud Earrings Unique By Adding Chains, Charms & More

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make stud earrings with chains and other accessories, which look really unique.
Revamp your old studs to match your mood and personality, using things you have at home like safety pins, office pins, zippers, keyrings, fabric from clothes, pendants from old necklaces, and more.
Anything can look sassy and beautiful as long as you wear it with the confidence it deserves!
Tools and materials:
- Studs
- Safety pins
- Chain
- Pendant
- Charms
- Jump rings
- Round nose pliers
- Fabric
1. DIY stud earrings with chain
Remove the stud’s back and feed a chain through the back of the stud.
Then, slide the earring back, back in.
This is a simply DIY stud earring with a chain, and it looks so unique and classy, don’t you think?
2. DIY stud with fabric
Take a scrap piece of fabric, cut it in a circle, and fold it four times. Then, create a hole using a safety pin and place it on the pointed part on top.
I decided to make a triangular shape, but you can make any shape you please.
Next, place the stud earring through the hole and the earring back.
This is a great way to use fabric scraps and transform a simple stud into a lovely and stylish DIY statement earring.
3. Looped DIY stud earrings
So, this is almost like the first style, except you’ll loop the chain by feeding both ends through the stud.
Easy and magnificent! I love this transformation - from a stud to a DIY statement earring in seconds!
4. DIY stud earrings with charm & chain
So, for this style, you’re going to place a chain and close the stud with the earring back.
Next, take one of your jump rings, open it up, and put it through a cute charm.
Now, I didn’t use my pliers because I wanted to show you that this can be done without them. Of course, if you have a set of round nose pliers, then go ahead and use them for ease of use.
Feed the open jump ring through the last hole of the chain and close it up.
I love how the charm adds an extra touch of glam! The best part is, you can be as creative as you want and even add feathers!
5. DIY stud earrings with a large jump ring
Take a big studded earring and place a chain through the back.
Open a jump ring with either your pliers or your fingers and feed it through the bottom end of the chain.
Then, place a larger jump ring at the bottom, too.
Voilà! You have yourself a lovely pair of DIY statement earrings! The larger jump ring gives off a cool edgier style.
6. DIY stud earrings with charms
Open the stud and place a charm of your choice at the back.
Easy and beautiful! As you can see, simply adding a little charm to your studs totally changes the look into something more sophisticated!
7. DIY stud earrings with a safety pin
So, here’s another easy idea on how to make cute stud earrings with a twist. Use a safety pin! Simply place the back part of the stud through the bottom loop of the safety pin.
Then, place the earring back, and you’re done! This gives a little twist to the conventional DIY statement earrings. I mean, safety pins can also look fantastic, and they sure are unique!
