Makeup Hack: How to Put on Nude Lipstick Without Looking Washed Out

Nude lipstick looks so beautiful until it doesn’t. On some people, a nude lip looks undefined and well, like you’re missing your mouth! Here’s how to apply nude lipstick so you don’t look washed out or make your lips look fake!
This is really about teaching you a technique on how to put on nude lipstick. Nude shades do vary and you’ll want to choose the right shade of nude lipstick that works for your skin tone.
Even when you’ve chosen the right shade, there isn’t a lot of contrast between the skin and the mouth so this method will help define your lips so you look gorgeous!
Tools and materials:
- Brown lip pencil, eyeliner, or brow pencil
- Nude lipstick
1. Overdraw
Yes, that’s right! You will use a brown pencil to overdraw just slightly! If you don’t have a brown lip pencil, you can use an eyeliner or eyebrow pencil.
Start at the bottom. Overdraw just in the center and follow the natural line at the corners or ends of the mouth. This helps to create a soft and inviting pouty look!
Then, draw your top lip but overdraw only at the Cupid’s bow, continuing to follow your natural lip line at the corners. This trick helps create a darker boundary so you gain the definition of your lips!
2. Soften the edges
Rub your lips together to soften the lines. You may want to use your finger to further blur the lines.
If you lose the line when rubbing or blurring, add a bit more definition by gently reapplying.
3. Apply the nude lipstick
Fill in your lips with your chosen nude lip color to cover the dark lines.
