How to Remove Gel Nails at Home
There are various techniques you can use when removing gel nails.
Here, I’m going to show you how to remove gel nails at home by soaking the gel off.
You definitely want to make sure that you're doing it properly so that you're not posing any damage to the nail bed. Let me show you what to do!
Tools and materials:
- Nail file
- Acetone
- Cotton balls
- Nail clips
- Knife or tweezers
1. File nails
Start by filing your nails so that you can break the top coat that’s over the nail. This will make soaking off a little bit easier.
You don’t need to file down all the way into your nail bed. Look to see that your whole nail is buffed, and you don’t have any smooth parts from the polish left.
2. Soak in acetone
Now soak your nails in acetone for 15 minutes.
To do this, dip cotton balls in acetone and then clip them to your nails.
You can also use aluminum foil or silicone nail caps if you don’t have clips. You can also use tissues or paper towels if you don’t have cotton balls.
3. Scrape off gel
Next, take the blunt end of a butter knife or a pair of tweezers and use them to scrape off the gel.
4. File nails
Once you have all the polish removed, use the softer end of the file and just buff around the edges of the nail and the cuticle line and just smooth out the nail.
