How to STOP Leather Pants From Squeaking
If you’ve ever worn leather pants, or seen that Friends episode or SNL skit, you’ll know about “The Squeak”!
It can happen for several reasons, but it’s always a bit of an embarrassment, isn’t it?
So I’ve got a couple of methods that will stop the squeak and save your blushes.
Tools and materials:
- Leather pants
- Cotton underwear
- Leather conditioner
- Fragrance-free body lotion (optional)
1. Check your undies
Don’t go commando and don’t wear synthetic underwear. Always wear cotton undies under leather.
Synthetic fabrics are more likely to create static, and that’s one of the causes of squeaking.
2. Keep the leather lubricated
Use a leather conditioner regularly so the leather doesn’t dry out.
Dryness can cause friction and that in turn creates that noise we hate.
3. Do a bit extra
Here’s the real trick.
Put the pants on and give them an extra layer of leather conditioner on the parts that rub. For most of us, that’s the thighs and maybe behind the knees.
If you’re really in a pinch, you could try fragrance free body lotion - with a caveat.
It will help with the lubrication but I’m always afraid it might stain the leather.
Personally, I’d only use it on a black pair and then only if I’m desperate.

So there are a few things you can try. I do them all. Cotton underwear, well lubricated leather and that super extra layer of conditioner once I have them on.
Try them and let me know if they work for you.
