How to Style Short Hair With Bangs: Straight and Curly
Hey guys! I’ve had shorter hair for almost a year now and have finally found a way to style it that I really love.
Today, I’m going to show you how to style short hair with bangs in a wavy style and a straight style.
Tools and materials:
- Hairdryer with attachments
- Water in a spray bottle
- Mousse
- Round brush
- Alligator clip
Style 1: Wavy
1. Prep your hair
If your hair is no longer wet, spray it with some water. Scrunch mousse into the hair to make the waves hold.
You can see the beginning of a wave pattern forming.
2. Diffuse your hair
Attach the diffuser accessory onto your hair dryer.
For thinner and straighter hair, use the shorter prongs. Set it to low speed and low heat and start drying.
Now try pixie diffusing the hair by gathering up a bunch of ends into the face of the diffuser while it’s turned off.
Once the hair is in place, turn the dryer back on, with the low settings, bringing it up to your head.
After a few seconds of holding the hair there, pull the diffuser down and you should see the waves starting to form.
Continue this method with more of your hair. I elongated the prongs to allow more room for the hair.
Once the ends are almost dry, use the longer prongs to reach your roots.
Now my hair feels mostly dry and I’ve gotten pretty curly results for someone with naturally straight hair!
I love the shape and volume that the diffuser gave my hair.

Style 2: Straight
1. Prep your hair
Spray your hair with water if it’s no longer wet.
Then run a round brush through your hair if there are any tangles.
Then, section off the top of your hair and secure it, out of the way, with an alligator clip.
Run the brush through the section of hair that’s down to get out any more tangles.
2. Dry the hair that’s down
Attach the concentrator accessory onto your hair dryer. Use the lowest speed and the second warmest setting.
Now, from the hair that’s down, grab a section on top of your round brush and begin drying.
Gradually pull the brush down the hair, following the curve with the concentrator.
I’m going for straight hair that curls under, like this:
When you switch sides, do you continue to hold the dryer with your dominant hand? Let me know in the comments!
3. Reclip the hair and dry another section
Remove the clip and then clip up a smaller section of hair from the top, just in the center. Then continue to dry your hair like before.
4. Dry the top section of hair in an upward direction
Remove the clip and for the last bit of wet hair on top, focus the hair upwards while drying to add volume.
If you have bangs, the trick is to blow the hair up and forward.
If your bangs are not as wide as the brush, like mine, you might need to go back and direct them more by drying smaller sections.
Here’s the final result of the straight style. My hair feels and looks voluminous!
This straight method is a lot quicker than diffusing the hair into waves. Here’s how it looks from the back:
