I Love Lucy Costume DIY Tutorial for Halloween
Come into my dressing room and get ready with me as I transform into Lucille Ball for this I Love Lucy Halloween costume DIY! I’ll show you how to make Lucy's signature poodle hairstyle and a Lucille Ball make-up look! I hope you all enjoy this tutorial!
Tools and materials:
- Concealer and foundation powder
- Contouring blush
- Pink blush
- Assorted eyeshadows
- Lengthening and volumizing mascara
- False eyelashes (optional)
- Cherry lip liner and lipstick
- Assorted makeup brushes
- Overnight hair-setting lotion
- Half-inch foam curlers
- Chignon foam hair roller
- Hair pins
1. Lucille Ball makeup – start with concealer
I started by applying concealer under my eyes and then a powder foundation to my face.
2. Define your cheekbones
Next, apply some taupe contouring powder in the hollows of your cheeks to define those great Lucille Ball cheekbones.
Sweep some pink blush onto your cheekbones right above where you did the contouring.
Use a big, soft, kabuki brush to soften up the blush by blending it in.
3. Fill in your brows
To mimic Lucy’s thin, long eyebrows, use dark brown eyeshadow to lightly fill in and extend your eyebrows past their natural outer end.
4. Add eyeshadow
Apply off-white eyeshadow to your eyelids, all the way up to just below your eyebrows.
Use a fluffy brush to apply a deeper vanilla-hued eyeshadow to the crease area of your eyelid and just above it. This will add some depth and dimension to your eyes.
Now add a camel-colored eyeshadow, preferably one that has a bit of gold in it, to the same area of your eye socket, but this time, just to the outer portion of that area.
5. Do your lashes
Curl your lashes and apply some lengthening mascara to them. Then switch to a volumizing mascara and build your lashes layer by layer.
If you prefer to use false eyelashes, go ahead and apply those.
6. Create Lucille Ball lips
Outline your lips with cherry-colored lip liner, keeping that signature Lucy bow-shaped lip.
Fill in your lips with the same lip liner.
Touch up that bow-shape on your top lip if necessary.
Finish your lips with an application of bright cherry-red lipstick.
7. Create the I Love Lucy hairstyle
I started with an overnight set, using setting lotion and half-inch foam rollers, making sure that the top of my hair was rolled forward.
Brush out your hair, and then pin a French roll chignon in a U-shape to the front of your hair.
Brush a small section of hair from the middle of the front of your head over the chignon roll and pin it into the roll.
Continue pulling and pinning front pieces of hair over the chignon to create Lucy’s bangs.
Pull the side section of your hair up to the very top, and pin it in place, leaving the ends of the curls loose. Do the same on the other side.
Pull the rest of your hair, in sections, to the top of your head and pin, leaving the curls loose.
Finish with a spritz or hairspray.
I completed my I Love Lucy look with a diner dress and some flat shoes.
