Tools and materials:
1. Apply volumizing product
While your hair is still damp from the shower, apply a volumizing mist (I’m using a Moroccan Oil mist here) along your part line. Don’t touch the product just yet.
Next, lift up a section of hair about 1” over from your part and apply more product to the scalp there.
Now use your fingers to massage the product into your scalp.
2. Dry your hair
When you rough-dry your hair, make sure to lift the roots up.
Temporarily clip up a top portion of your hair and use a hair dryer with a brush attachment to dry sections of the hair that’s loose, still lifting from the roots. Then take out the clip and continue drying sections from the top portion of hair.
3. Use a volumizing heat tool
I found this volumizing tool on Amazon and as you can see, it looks like a waffle iron:
Lift up a top section of hair and clamp the iron down on hair below this, right at the root. You can go down the hair a little bit, but not too far because you want to be able to hide it underneath that top layer.
