How to Fray Denim
Have you ever wondered how to fray denim? I love the way Mother Step Fray jeans look but wanted a way to fray denim myself to get the same look.
Once you know how to fray denim, you can use the same technique on jean shorts, skirts, and pants. You can even use the technique on skinny jeans.
You can use this same method on any type of jeans you have. But, you might want to start with an old pair of jeans to learn on. Or, pick up a pair from the thrift store to see if you like the results.
The first step in the process is to cut off the real hem of the jeans. You will need sharp fabric shears to make a nice clear cut. It's helpful if you use chalk to draw a hemline first so that it is straight.
I try to use tailor's chalk because the line is thinner and easier to follow. But, if you don't have it, you can always use chalk from the kids' chalkboard instead.
Once this is done, you will have a rough edge at the end of the jeans. You can use tweezers to pull out random threads. And, for a more pronounced look, you can also use small scissors to make tiny cuts in the edges.
Check out the blog pos t for the secret method I use so that they don't unravel too much.
