How To Hem Jeans
Every once in a while, we all stumble upon a pair of jeans that looks great, but the length doesn’t quite suit us. In those cases, hemming them is the only choice, if you want to wear them.
No need to shy away from this task, even though it might seem tricky. In reality, it’s not difficult at all, you just need a sewing machine that can sew denim and this tutorial! You can hem your jeans in two ways, both of which you’ll learn from this article. Let’s begin!
The first method – keep the original hem
Mark the new hem
Wear your jeans and fold them up to your desired length. Be careful not to shorten them too much, it’s better if they stay just a tad longer.
Measure the length of the fold and split those measurements into two. Don’t include the existing hem in the measurements.
Hem the jeans
Fold the jeans according to the new measures and pin them in place.
Stitch close to the original hem. Use a denim needle and a matching thread.
Cut off the excess fabric and zig-zag or serge the raw edge.
Finish the hem
Press the new hem flat and topstitch it.
Now repeat all the steps for the second leg as well.
Your jeans are ready for you!
The second method - make a new hem
Mark the new hem
Wear your jeans and mark your desired length.
Leave an extra inch for the seam allowance.

Cut off the excess fabric, along with the old hem.
Fold the edge in twice, each time for half an inch.
