I am lucky to have regular donations of old broken vintage crockery from friends and neighbours which I love to up cycle to one of a kind jewellery. I begin by rummaging around in the box of crockery to find some suitable pieces to transform.

Box of crockery

The patterns and floral designs are so beautiful and I look to find some that can transform into pendants and brooches.

i use wheeled tile nippers to cut the ceramic. Protective eye glasses goggle's essential to ward off china shards .

Nibbling and cutting a piece that is transforms into a nice shape and then I use the sanding whee grind stone attachment to the mini rotary drill. This is a but dusty so best to wear a face mask to stop inhalation of dust.

Smoothing the ceramic edges takes just. A few minutes. I round off and smooth them on a medium speed but you can do it slowly at first till you get used to handling the sander.

next is time to mix up the epoxy resin glue to fix the back of the brooch pin to the ceramic. Is best to make a little rough patch to help the pin fix well.

Mix glue

Equal parts of each part a and part b then spread it onto the back of the brooch. The pin will take a few minutes to harden and fix well.

Rough the back ready for glue

After a few minutes the brooch is ready to wear!

I have done this without the tile nippers, electric sander and epoxy glue. I smash the China randomly under a tea towel with a hammer, I then hand sand it which only takes a few minutes. I then tend to glue it to another medium using an all material 3 in 1 craft glue by Beacon. I might add it to a gathered lace circle, or a crochet round. There is one other thing I do to add a finishing touch. I gild the edges using traditional Size (Gilders glue) let that set a bit for 15 minutes at least and then create a lovely gold border (or Silver, blue, green) dependant on personal taste. Hope this has given any readers some other ideas and alternative ways to do without paying out for expensive tools we don’t need
