I first discovered Shrinky Dinks as a seven-year-old, and I thought they were magic. My love for this fabulous craft has not diminished over the decades, and I've used it recently to make some fabulous earrings.

I'm a big fan of the Nordic design studio Marimekko and have made loads of crafts that are Marimekko-themed, including shoes (see here). So I decided to use a Marimekko design for my earrings.

I also made some angel-shaped earrings with shrink plastic to wear for fun at Christmas.

I used printable white shrink plastic sheets for this craft. They are readily available in craft stores and online. Ensure you only use them in an inkjet printer, as they can damage a laser printer.

I also used Sharpies, a hole punch and some earring fixings.

The designs are free to print on my site (pillarboxblue.com) link is in the bio at the end. Print them onto a sheet of shrink plastic.

I first went over the outline of each design with a black sharpie.

I then coloured in the shapes with a coloured Sharpie.

Next, carefully cut out each earring shape.

Next, punch a hole in the plastic where you will attach the earring hook.

Then place them on parchment paper on a baking tray. Bake them in the oven according to the instructions on the packet. It's typically about 160 deg C for 2-3 mins.

The plastic will curl, shrink and then uncurl. It will end up being about 1/3 smaller and 5-6 times thicker than when you first put it in the oven.

Use a pair of pliers to attach the earring hooks to the punched holes.

I'm pleased with how all three earrings turned out. And I have a Marimekko top with the same Unikko poppy design as the red earrings to wear with them.
