Cutting DIY wine cork earrings

1. Cut the corks

Start off this cork earrings DIY by preparing the cork. I cut mine about half a centimeter in width. You want them to be thick enough to be able to pierce a hole through.

Cutting wine corks in half

2. Cut in half

Cut two pieces for each earring and then cut them in half.

Piercing wine corks

3. Pierce a hole

Use a needle or something similar to make a needle that goes through the center of the cork. Try to make it as straight as possible.

Adding color to wine cork earrings

4. Color

To add the color, I chose to use regular markers. I also tried acrylic paint, but I liked that the marker is see-through and reveals the texture of the cork underneath.

You can go for whatever color combination that you want. Color both sides, and then make sure to let the ink dry.

Painting wine cork earrings

5. Paint

This step is optional, but I painted the sides of the pieces with white acrylic paint.

Spraying cork with varnish

6. Spray with varnish

Once that is dry, spray paint both sides with clear varnish to add shine and protect the color.

Cutting and bending wire for wine cork earrings

7. Cut and bend the wire

Next, cut a piece of wire. Bend the edge of the wire to a 90-degree angle and turn it in the opposite direction to create a loop.

Inserting cork pieces onto the wire

8. Insert pieces onto the wire

Then put the pieces of cork through the wire. After spacing them correctly, cut the excess wire and add a drop of super glue to keep it secure.

Attaching hooks to wine cork earrings

9. Attach the earring hooks

Lastly, attach the earring hooks to the wine cork earrings using the round nose pliers to open and close the wire.

Hi Curly, I make jewelry and those are very cute. I can see them in different colors and even gilded. Copper stripping for stained glass would look nice on the edges. Just make sure your findings match or are near to the color of the metallic accents. Thank you for sharing. :)

How about a cute bead in between each cork to give it more color and fun sparkle?
