I enjoy creating eco friendly items from throwaway old stuff and it’s when I saw these old colourful beads I fell in love with the vegetable ivory Tagua nuts and thought that they would make super earrings!

Old beads

I choose beads that could be similar shape colour to be a matching pair or as close as possible. These beads already had pre drilled holes in so I didn’t need to do much to them.

Purple Tagua nut beads

I like to use silver metal jump rings to assemble the earrings and these come in varied sizes. I choose one size slightly larger for going through the nut and the smaller sized one for attaching this to the large sterling silver ear hooks. I find always It’s best to use good quality ear hook fixing to prevent any ear allergy/irritation .

Jump rings

I like to use rounded nosed pliers to grip and open the jump rings and it makes the job easier with fiddly bits. Then pick which bead you want and simply put line up the beads hole with the jump ring to secure it on the ring. Try holding the bead in your hand first to make sure you don't pick one that is too heavy for your ear.

Assemble earrings with pliers

It’s important to pinch the rings securely and tightly so the earrings don’t fall off the hooks.

After a few tweaks the earrings are ready to wear. So delighted with the result.
