I usually look out for beads and buttons and broken jewellery in charity shops and often they sell bagged up old, not selling stock cheaply. Luckily I discovered a pair of old pretty earrings cabochons in the bundle that just needed some fresh ear hooks and jump rings to become useable and loved again!

Old earrings

I cleaned them up with a damp cloth shined which revealed beautiful inlays of abalone and some other pretty stripes.

I used the round nosed pliers especially for jewellery making to fix some silver jump rings into the ready made holes.

I twist the ring gently into the hole and and add another ring to affix the ear wires into. Repeating this process for both earrings .

Adding extra ring

The next step is to fix the sterling silver ear wires on and these open up and the rings fits in snuggly with a pinch of the pliers. I find sterling silver is best to use to prevent having skin irritation which sometimes happens with other metal ear hooks .

Once both earrings made it’s time to admire their beauty!

such a gorgous pair!
