6 Genius DIY Makeup Hacks, Plus How to Make Your Own Setting Spray
Today, I’m going to show you 6 genius makeup hacks (that really work) to recycle your unused makeup. If you have broken eyeshadow pieces or colors that don’t match you anymore, these TikTok makeup hacks are for you!
Also, as a fun bonus, I’ll show you how to make your very own setting spray with natural ingredients. Ready? Let’s go!
Tools and materials:
- Lipstick
- Assorted makeup brushes
- Old mascara wand
- Light and dark foundations
- Setting powder
- Concealer
- Beauty blender sponge
- Light lipgloss
- Tissue paper
- Glass jar
- Spoon
- Microwave
- Container
For the DIY setting spray:
- Spray bottle
- Witch hazel
- Aloe vera juice
- Lavender
- Water
1. Using lipstick as color corrector
Alright, Let’s start with this peach-colored broken lipstick.
Using your ring finger, which has the least pressure, apply some of your broken lipstick right under your eyes, dark spots, and around the corners of your nose.
I know this seems pretty odd, but this makeup hack actually color corrects the dark spots on your face and evens out your skin tone.
Next, apply your favorite concealer right on top for a flawless finish! See how great it looks?
2. Mixing shades of foundation
Ok, moving on to foundation! Do you have a load of old foundations that are too light or too dark? Well, seasonal changes can impact the color of your skin and the color foundation we use.
If you have a really light foundation, you can use this to highlight your face. So, down the center of your face, under the eyes, on the chin, and anywhere you want to highlight, really!
Remember, the aim of highlighting is to lift your face a little, and a light-colored foundation does the trick, too!
If you have a dark foundation that just doesn’t match you right now, then this is perfect for contouring your face. Apply this right below your cheekbones, sides of your nose, and blend it up to your forehead.
You will have this beautiful summer glow without investing in an actual contour and highlighter. It looks like we added bronzer, but it’s totally just foundation!
Tip: Set your foundation with setting powder for a natural, all-smooth finish.
3. Using lipstick as blush
Remember that peach lipstick color we used? You can totally use it instead of a blush. The creamy consistency will make your face look smooth and dewy.
4. Make use of a dried-out mascara wand
Do you have a dried-out mascara wand? Don’t trash it! Use it to brush out your eyebrows just to give them a little shape.
5. Layering light and dark lip shades
If you have a very light shade of lipgloss that washes you out, try applying a darker shade before applying the light color on top.
Like this, you still get in some color that will not wash you out.
6. Stop lipstick transferring
Now, if you have a lipstick that you absolutely love but transfers a little more than you want it to, then this DIY makeup hack is for you!
Put some powder onto your brush, place a clean tissue over your lips, and dab the brush onto your lips. Repeat this step one or two more times.
You’ll now have the same color, without any transfer! How amazing?
7. Combine lipstick colors
If you have lipsticks that you never use, then try this lipstick makeup hack!
Combine the colors to your preferred tone, ensuring it’s the best combo for your skin tone.
Once you have a color that you like, cut pieces of the corresponding lipstick into a clean glass dish.
Then, pop the dish into the microwave for about 20-30 seconds, and you have yourself a custom shade!
You can transfer this into a little plastic container that you can throw in your purse, and apply it with a makeup brush or finger.
Bonus: DIY setting spray
Now that our face makeup is done, I will show you a really quick DIY setting spray! You’ll need
- 3 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- 1 tablespoon aloe vera juice
- A few drops of lavender
Pour this into a glass spray bottle and shake to mix.
Now you have a DIY setting spray that’ll leave your face looking fresh and makeup look dewy and au naturel!
