3 Easy Musical Theater Halloween Costumes You Can DIY at Home
Happy spooky season! For this video, I thrifted some items to create musical theater-inspired Halloween costumes from 3 of my favorite musicals: Grease, Hairspray! and Anything Goes. All three of these costumes are simple and inexpensive DIYs. I hope you enjoy this tutorial!
Tools and materials:
- Navy blue pantsuit
- Blue and white sailor collar
- White sailor hat with blue trim
- White sandals
- Plaid knee-length skirt
- Coral pink cardigan
- White button-down shirt
- White ankle socks
- Lace-up loafers
- Black denim jeans
- Black off-the-shoulder top
- Red high-heeled shoes
- Black leather jacket
- Assorted accessories (including a lollipop!)
1. Anything Goes Halloween costume
For this costume, I bought the sailor collar and the hat from Amazon and added them to a basic navy blue short-sleeved pantsuit.
Then I just spent a bit of time on hair and makeup, including the deep red lipstick. Once I added some strappy white sandals, my Anything Goes Halloween costume was complete!
Happy days are here again!
2. Hairspray! Halloween costume
The signature look for Penny Pingleton, from the musical Hairspray!, comes from her hairstyle, with the updo ponytail, and her lollipop.
For Penny’s outfit, I picked out a plaid skirt, coral-pink sweater, and button-down white shirt.
Then I added some white ankle socks and lace-up loafers to complete the look.
3. Sandy from Grease Halloween costume
How sad it was to lose Olivia Newton-John recently. Perhaps this costume will honor her memory.
The big hair, red shoes, and black leather jacket really helped to recreate this character.
I also added a cigarette as a prop only… but PLEASE do not smoke!
