When you want to try something new it's always handy to have an opinion of people you can trust. With my large family and many people around me who are happy to try my product and give me valuable feedback is easy to experiment. I made this cream as a Christmas gift for all my female family members. It's not that this cream would not be suitable for men, it's just its pinkish color and smell of roses that distinguish it for a female audience. I have got very positive feedback so I am happy to share with you...

Since ever I started to use roses in my homemade cosmetics I am overwhelmed with their benefits, pleasant aroma and luxurious feeling. They are not only lovely to smell and touch they also can lift up your spirit and mind.

What is the difference between cream and salve?

you might notice that I have been making lavender salve, elderflower salve or dandelion salve in the past. Why do we call this rose cream and not a salve? Salve simply contains infuse or essential oils and beeswax. Melted beeswax is mixed with other oil, butter or vitamin E. However there is no water added to this mixture. Whereas in creams you use both water and oil bases blending them together with an emulsifying agent. This makes cream more moisturizing, less oily than salves but with shorter shelf life. Creams have water and therefore need a preserving agent, in our case beeswax. Or/and should be stored in the refrigerator for longer shelf life.

Ingredients

the water part in this cream is Rose water, that has a positive effect on the skin, reduces redness, has toning effect, balances the skin pH and is also recommended for the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, and acne. Rose water is easy to prepare, all you need are chemicals free rose petals and distilled water.

The oily part is made of Rose infused oil that effectively increases the skin tone, relaxes and cleanses, nourishes and regenerate the skin. The rose infused oil is also not difficult to make, once you have the petals ready, you just need to select the carrier oil and method you want the petals to macerate. We also made homemade rose lip balm using rose infused oil.

Apart from being a preserving agent in this mixture beeswax has many healing properties. Its anti-inflammatory properties are helping in the healing of wounds. Beeswax is also protective in helping form a barrier between the skin and the environment without clogging pores. In addition, it's high in vitamin A, that is responsible for support cell reconstruction.

For a vegan alternative Use half as much candelilla wax instead of the beeswax.

Lanolin is a natural product derived from sheep wool. Contains large amounts of fat and prevents evaporation of water from the skin (transepidermal water loss). This keeps the skin hydrated and helps the skin heal. It acts in the same time as an emulsifier that enables water base (in our case Rose water) and oil base (rose infused oil) to dispersed in each other and create homogenous, smooth cream.

For vegan alternative use Lecithin from soy - a very nice multifunctional natural emulsifier.

This rose cream is excellent to use as a night cream and as a toner, balancing your pH and at the same time moisturizer that is keeping your skin smooth and soft.

How to store it?

the presence of oil and water base make this cream less stable in its shelf life. If you keep it in room temperature it stays well for over a month. If you want to prolong the shelf life up to 3 months, keep it in a refrigerator. Ideally, make smaller batches that will keep the cream fresh and safe to use.
