There is a myriad of reasons why you might be looking for a no-makeup makeup look. Perhaps you are new to wearing makeup. Or maybe you’re about to go to the gym and want to look put together but not made up.

If you too prefer a natural glam makeup look and you are over 50, this quick tutorial is especially for you.

The makeup I’m using is from the Look Fabulous Forever range, made specifically for mature skin. However, you can achieve the same results with any brand of makeup. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Face wash
  • Face serum
  • Day cream
  • Face primer
  • Beauty balm
  • Foundation brush
  • Eye primer
  • Concealer
  • Cream colored eyeshadow
  • Eyeshadow brush
  • Rose blush
  • Black mascara
  • Matte eyeshadow (for your brows)
  • Small, wedge brush
  • Blush brush
  • Beige lipstick
Applying serum

1. Prep your face and apply serum

Always start your makeup routine with a clean and smooth face. I like to hold my hair back with two large clips. Wash your face, then apply a few drops of daily face serum to the back of your hand.

Dab it evenly with your fingertips onto your face. Choose a product with hyaluronic acid, which acts like a magnet, binding moisture to the skin.

2. Apply moisturizer

Put a few dots of moisturizer on your face, then rub it in well. This step is crucial because makeup will not sit well on dry, flaky skin.

I suggest waiting a few minutes for these first layers to dry before moving on to the makeup application.

3. Apply face primer

This is an essential step before using foundation because it will blur any fine lines and open pores for a smooth look.

Apply a few squirts of primer to your hand, then dab all over your face.

4. Apply a light beauty balm

This is like a step up from tinted moisturizer, giving a really natural look. Put it on with your fingers to start with.

Applying a beauty balm

Then, take a little bit more on a foundation brush and buff it in.

Finish blending with your fingers. It should still look really light, not cakey, for that glowy, no-makeup look we’re after.

5. Use a cream concealer

Apply concealer for an extra boost. Start at the dark circles under the eyes and in the inner corners using a concealer brush.

This will instantly make you look more awake. The cream consistency helps avoid it sitting in any fine lines. Then I tap it in with my ring finger–the warmth helps melt the product in.

Applying concealer

Next, apply the concealer to any sunspots you might have as well as around the nose where you might have broken capillaries.

6. Apply eye primer

As we age, our eyelids get a bit thinner and uneven in tone. This step helps mask those issues.

Take a tiny bit, dab it on the eyelids, followed by your concealer brush to blend it across the lids.

The key is to use this product on dry, oil free lids. I won’t be doing full-out eye makeup for this no-makeup makeup look, but I will use a natural eyeshadow.

The primer step prevents the eyeshadow from sinking into the creases.

7. Apply a cream colored eyeshadow

Apply a neutral, matte, cream colored shadow to the eyes. It won’t look like eyeshadow really, the aim for bright, fresh-looking eyes.

Cream colored eyeshadow

Sweep it on all over the lid, from the lash line to the crease.

8. Apply mascara

Put a bit of black mascara on your lashes to define your eyes.

We won’t be using any eyeliner in this 10-minute makeup routine, so make sure you apply the mascara all the way to the base of the lashes.

Don’t forget to apply the mascara to your lower lashes as well.

9. Define your brows

Apply a matte eyeshadow with a small, wedge brush to fill in and define your brows.

Choose a shade that best matches your natural eyebrow color. No need to go too dark here. We want to maintain natural looking brows.

10. Add a hint of color with blush

I chose a rose color that seems to suit all skin tones without adding too much color. Dab a small amount of blush along your cheekbones with your fingers for a natural, healthy glow.

11. Put on lipstick

Lastly, apply a nude shade of lipstick. I’m applying it directly, but if you have more time, feel free to apply it with a lip brush.

I liked the look when you were finished, but did you see the list of products you used? The whole point of the no makeup look is to look decent when you leave the house and you have to leave in 3 min.

But I do agree, well maintained skin is essential when going sparingly on make up. Or if you like a very "done" makeup look for that matter!

Best wishes as you build your channel.
