I've been doing my makeup a little bit differently recently, so I’m going to share some cool makeup tricks with you. I tweaked a few things and found some good hacks for perfecting certain aspects of my makeup. Let me show you these super-helpful makeup tips.

Tools and materials:

  • Primer
  • Foundation
  • Blender
  • Concealer
  • Buffing brush
  • Contour
  • Thin makeup brush
  • Pencil eyeliner
  • False eyelashes
  • Scissors
  • Mascara
  • Lip pencil
  • Faux freckles
  • Liquid eyeliner
  • Bronzer
Mixing primer and foundation

1. Mix primer and foundation

I love a glowy finish, so I start with primer, but instead of applying it to my face, I mix it with foundation. I’ll do a bigger proportion of primer to the foundation and use a damp beauty blender to mix the two together on my hand. Then I’ll apply it.

Applying a thin layer for natural coverage

A nice thin layer gives you coverage, but still looks natural.

Applying lines of concealer to lift the eye

2. Concealer placement

Instead of putting concealer underneath your eye in a triangle, just pop it where you've got dark circles or discoloration. Then, draw a line from the corner of your eye up towards your temple to lift the eye and give more of a cat-eye look.

Next, draw a line from right underneath the corner of your bottom lip and drag it up towards your ears. Let this sit for a bit before blending, for better coverage.

Applying contour on the cheekbone

3. Contour on the cheekbone

Instead of using my contour stick where the contour of my cheek is, which is quite low, I put it almost directly on the cheekbone. This will gives the effect of higher cheekbones.

Applying contour along the jawline

To create the illusion of a heart-shaped face, pop some contour along the jawline to make it look more triangular. I also like to contour my temples and my nose.

I'm super careful when I blend out the cheek contour so that I'm not dragging it down. I try to keep it high up on the face.

Applying dots of light concealer along the nose

To finish my nose contour, I'll take a slightly lighter concealer and draw a line of dots. I use my fourth finger to gently tap that all the way down my nose to create a highlight.

Then I'll go back in with my buffing brush to ensure it's blended into the contour.

Setting under the eyes with powder

I set my under eyes and smile lines with powder. My contour stick is quite warm-toned, so it acts more like a bronzer and gives it a bit more depth.

Extending the contour to the eye socket

4. Contour around eyes

I wish I could tell you why I do this or why it looks good, but I’ve been getting a small fluffy brush like an eyeshadow brush and taking the medium shade in my contour palette. Then I've just been contouring the inner corner of my eye socket kind of extending my nose contour.

Applying contour as eyeshadow

5. Contour as eyeshadow

I have been loving a really simple eye. So instead of eyeshadow, I go in with the same shade contour and brush it all over the lid. I’m also going to draw it under the eye as well.

Applying eyeliner pencil softly to hide false lashes

6. Eyeliner to hide false lash lines

I really hate putting lashes onto my bare lash line because you can see the gap between the falsies and my actual lashes. So I have been getting a pencil liner and scribbling it quite softly onto my lash line.

Then I get any old eyeshadow brush and buff it out so it's a little bit smokier. Now I feel that there is something for the lashes to sit on, but it's not too intense.

Applying cut lashes to the outer edges of the lash line

7. Cutting false eyelashes

Next, I’m going to get my false lashes, cut them in half, and then stick them to the outer edge of my lash line so that it looks a lot more natural and cat-eyed. I’m also applying mascara to my lashes.

Overlining the center of the lips

8. Overlining the center of lips

First, I get a dark lip pencil and lining my bottom lip first. I overline the center of my lips and then drag it right up to the corner, following the natural line of my lips.

Overlining the cupid's bow

For the top lip, I overlined right above my cupid's bow and from there, followed my natural lip line all the way down to the corner of my lips. I'm going to color in the outer corners of my lips because that will make the center of my lips pop a little bit more.

Making lips pop with concealer

9. Making lips pop

I'm going to get a slightly lighter lipstick and fill in my lips. To make it pop even more, I'll get a bit of concealer and tap that into the center. Then I’ll blend that in with my finger to disperse the product

Applying faux freckles across the nose

10. Applying faux freckles

The last thing I'm going to show you is some faux freckles. I dot a little bit of brown liquid eyeliner on my finger and then dot it around my nose area and pat it in. To ensure it doesn’t look too extreme, I’ll blend the freckles in with my beauty blender.

Applying bronzer across the nose

11. Bronzer for a sunkissed look

To finish off, I dust a little bronzer where I put the freckles, so I look more sunkissed.
