How to Style a Blazer

A blazer is a great layering piece, and it instantly elevates whatever you wear it with; it's like the cherry on the cake. I always get a lot of wear out of my blazers, especially when it's a bit colder outside. So take a look at these outfits I've created with them.

How to style a blazer

Classic Brown

For the first outfit, I decided to go with a pretty classy, oversized blazer that I thrifted (actually, most of the blazers featured in this lookbook were thrifted - blazers are one of the best things to get at thrift stores). I'm wearing the blazer with a cropped vest and a pair of shorts, and those by themselves look a bit skimpy, but the blazer adds some coverage. I love this outfit because it really ties together and also looks a bit edgy and cool.

Show-Stopping Red

For the next look, I went for a fun blazer in a bright cardinal red. I love how colorful and eye-catching it is, and I've matched it with some shows in the same color but a bit of a lighter tone. Here I'm almost wearing the blazer as a top, and it looks really cool that way. I've added a belt bag to sinch in my waist and add some definition to the silhouette.

Baby Blue

Here I went for a bit of a monochrome look. I'm wearing a white vest with a baby blue blazer on top. The cropped length of the vest contrasts really nicely with the oversized blazer. These denim jeans are a special piece in my wardrobe, and I love the asymmetry that comes from each leg being a different shade. I finished the look off with a wide brim hat in the same blue tone, a pair of loafers, and a graphic print purse which adds a pop of personality to the look.

Maroon à la Mode

The next outfit is a little bit different - a little more chic and stylish. I'm wearing a long sweater dress that has a plunging v-neckline, and I've left the bottom of it unbuttoned to show a bit of leg. The blazer coordinates really well with the dress as there is a hint of maroon in the placket of the dress. I've finished off the outfit with some trusty accessories: a simple necklace, a pair of shades, and a designer purse. Overall this is an elevated look that is much more than the sum of its parts.

Chic Chocolate

Who said that brown and black don't go? This outfit is here to prove that they do. We have some funky pants with slit details at the bottom and a fun graphic tee. I've draped the blazer over my shoulders for a sophisticated finish. The baseball cap and sunglasses are perfect additions to this outfit and really give off boss-lady vibes.

I hope that you like the looks that I’ve put together. You’ve seen my five blazers, but there is such a variety of different cuts, colors, and designs out there. Next time you’re out shopping, see what beauties you can find (either new or secondhand can be just as good). Remember, the secret to looking fabulous is confidence. When you feel happy and confident with what you’re wearing, you’ll walk tall and look fantastic.
