Easy Owl Halloween Makeup Tutorial
Celtic mythology time! This look is based on a story from the medieval Welsh branches of the Mabinogi legends.
Blodeuedd, the flower maiden, is transfigured into Blodeuwedd, the owl. Follow along for a step-by-step owl Halloween makeup tutorial.
Tools and materials:
- Jumbo white eye pencil
- Black eyeliner pencil
- Small eyeshadow brush
- Medium brown eyeshadow
- False eyelashes
1. Apply a white base and feather-like lines
Using a jumbo white eye pencil, apply a generous white base to your eyelids and the surrounding portion underneath the eyes.
Extend the white by making feather-like lines underneath.
Then blend the parts on and around your eye with your fingers.
Draw two curved lines above your brows using the white pencil, then smudge slightly with your fingers.
2. Add dark accents
With a black eye pencil, follow the brow line, extending each brow with shorter and denser lines.
Using the same pencil, line your upper lids.
Next, extend those lines midway into the crease of your eyes as well as downward, beside your nose.
Now draw on the beak with the same black pencil at the tip of your nose.
3. Add brown details
Using a medium brown shadow and small brush, apply small, feather-like lines in the space between the white base around your eyes and the white feather lines you applied earlier.
Add 3D-like definition to your nose (the beak) by shading in two vertical lines leading down to the black tip of the beak.
Then stretch the brown in the area between your brows.
Add more depth to your cheeks by drawing short, brown lines on the outside of the white feather lines.
Add some brown lines to the black eyebrow lines, as well as to the two white lines above the brows.
4. Add a layer of contrast with the black pencil
Draw short black lines, wisped outward, on the edges of what you’ve already drawn so far. Continue all around.
5. Line the bottom lashline
Line your lower eyelash lines with the black pencil.
Next, fill in under the eyes with the white pencil. Then blend the white with your fingers.
6. Add brown feather lines to your forehead
Use your brown eyeshadow and small brush to draw small lines on your forehead, between the two curved, white lines. You may need to brighten those white lines again with the white pencil.
7. Add drama with false lashes
Apply false eyelashes according to their instructions.
8. Define the eye creases
Go over the eye creases again with the brown shadow, using the small brush.
9. Color your lips
Finish the look by applying a nude/peach lip color.
