Hey everyone! I’m going to give you a pinup hair tutorial that will give you volume and curls that stay all day.

This is a great vintage look that is so classy and fabulous, you will look like you stepped out of a magazine.

Tools and materials:

  • 1-1.5 inch rollers
  • Smoothing serum
  • Brush
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Teasing comb
  • Pomade
Hair in rollers

1. Rollers

First, you will need to put rollers in your hair and leave them overnight.

The curl pattern is just to roll everything under. Everything at the top is rolled back.

Removing rollers

Be careful when removing your rollers. With foam rollers you don’t pull them out. Simply unwind them.

2. Start styling

Start the styling by picking your part. I’m doing a side part. I think a side part works best with this style.

Styling hair

Break up your curls with your fingers and brush your hair against your hand to minimize damage.

Then brush the curls in the direction you want them to go. Take smoothing serum and apply to the ends of your hair.

Sectioning hair

3. Section off the top half of your hair

On the smaller part of your hair, section it in half horizontally and clip it up.

Then do the same to the back section of your hair, sectioning it in half and clipping the top half up. Continue around the other side, pinning everything up.

Backcombing hair

4. Backcomb and clip the bottom half of your hair

Take the hair in sections and start backcombing. Then spray it with hairspray.

Comb halfway down starting at the root of the hair to push the volume down to the bottom.

Clipping hair

5. Brush and clip the top of your hair

Let down the top half of the hair. On the side with the smaller part, brush the hair down starting at the root.

Put clips halfway down to push down the curls. Then clip the hair to keep the curls down.

Clipping hair

Do the same thing to the back of the head.

Styling bangs

6. Style the bangs

On the other side of the head, brush the hair. Before doing the clips, we’re going to style the bangs.

Take a small section of hair and backcomb at the base. Then spray with hairspray.

Adding hairspray

Continue taking the hair in sections, backcombing at the bottom, and spraying until you get to the other side of the forehead.

Once everything is backcombed, give it another spritz and wait for it to dry. We are going to brush the outside of the curl. Use a brush with loose bristles so you don’t brush through the backcombing.

You should have a swoop in the front. Place your hand underneath it so you don’t pull the height of the backcombing out.

Take a bit of pomade and go over the hair. Check the back of your hair and make sure the hair is wrapping cleanly around.

Styling hair

Place some clips at the base of the swoop to hold it in place. Comb through the ends to make them smooth.

7. Style the rest of the hair

Now brush out the rest of the hair, again being careful not to brush out the backcombing. Then apply hairspray and pomade. Now that the pomade is in, you can control the curls and direct them.

Take out the clip on the other side of the hair and put a bobby pin behind the ear.

Again, brush over the top of the curl to smooth it out on the top while being careful to keep the backcombing in place underneath.

Take the clips out of the rest of the hair and go over the rest of the hair, smoothing out the curls.

8. Finishing touches

When you’re done, spray everything with hairspray.
