How to Make Cute Plastic Bottle Earrings Out of an Old Sauce Bottle
Rather than throwing away your old and used sauce bottles, you can actually upcycle them into cool plastic bottle earrings! If you want to learn how to make earrings from plastic bottles, I’ll show you all the tips and tricks. Let's get started.
Tools and materials:
- Earring hooks
- Jump rings
- Pointed-end tool
- Old sauce bottle
- Scissors
- Small pliers
- Ruler
1. Start cutting
Cut a 3-inch wide piece from your sauce bottle.
Tip: Make sure to remove the label of the sauce bottle first- I simply soaked mine in hot water for 5-10 minutes to easily remove the label.
Next, cut 6 thin strips from the piece of plastic you just cut. I didn’t have a ruler with me, so I guessed the measurements as I was cutting. Mine measured 4mm (0.15 inches) wide and 7.5cm (2.95 inches) long.
2. Adjust the sizes
Once you have cut 6 strips, go ahead and adjust the sizes for the loops.
Here are my measurements:
- Keep two strips at 7.5cm (2.95 inches) long
- Cut 2 strips at 6cm (2.36 inches) long
- Cut the two remaining strips to 4.5cm (1.77 inches) long
3. Make holes
Next, using a tool with a sharp point, go ahead and pierce through each strip’s short ends. Make the holes approximately 2mm (0.08 inches) from the edge of the strips. You can also use an awl, but please be careful with this step.
4. Attach the earring fastenings
To make one earring, open up your jump ring with a set of pliers.
Then, take your shortest plastic strip (4.5cm or (1.77 inches) ) Through the jump ring, so it forms a loop, as shown.
Then, attach the 6cm (2.36 inches) strip, and lastly, the 7.5cm (2.95 inches) strip. This is what it should look like.
Add the earring hook and close up the jump ring.
Repeat the whole process for the second DIY plastic bottle earring.
