With Halloween around the corner, I thought it would be a great idea to show you how to create a red skull makeup look.

The goal of today’s tutorial is to help you create a quick and easy Halloween makeup idea that will not cost a lot of money.

I suggest using as much makeup from your kit at home as possible instead of buying new products. This look is so effective, half the face is glitter skull makeup, while the other half is completely glam. Let’s get into the guide.

Tools and materials:

  • Face paint
  • Concealer
  • Powder
  • Eyeshadow
  • Setting spray
  • Makeup glitter
  • White liner
  • Black liner
  • Red lipstick
  • Highlighter
  • Mascara
  • Makeup brushes
Priming eyelids for red skull makeup look

1. Prime and set eyelids

I start by prepping and priming my eyelids, so the colors are more pigmented and last longer.

I am using concealer as that’s what I have at home but use whatever is in your stash. I'm just going to use my fingers to rub that product into my lids and then set it with a powder.

Applying base color

2. Apply a base color

Apply a base color to your lid, you want something with a red undertone.

Before dipping your brush into the eyeshadow, spray it with a bit of setting spray. This will make the color more intense.

Enhancing base color with deep red

3. Enhance the base color

Now you are going to take a deep red eyeshadow and apply it over your base color.

Intensifying crease

4. Intensify your crease

We now have a base but to enhance that smoky look we need to make our crease pop. I am going in with this color which has a brown tone to it and applying it to my crease.

Cleaning up red skull eye makeup

5. Clean up

This would be a good time to clean up around your eyes.

Appling concealer to eyelid

6. Add glitter

To make this demon look a little more fun and exciting we are going to add glitter to the eyes. Start by applying some concealer on the lid.

Adding glitter

Now pat the glitter onto your lids and then blend it with a brush.

Adding a base to skin

7. Add base

You can now apply a base to your whole face.

Adding concealer

8. Concealer

Add concealer under your eyes and blend it in and set both the base and concealer with powder.

Darkening brows

9. Darken your eyebrows

Adding blush

10. Add blush

Adding color under brows

11. Add a neutral color under the brow

Lining top lid

12. Line your top lid and apply mascara

Drawing lines on face

13. Create three lines as a guide for your skull

And now it's time to start the fun part, making the red skull makeup on half of your face.

Use your white face paint or any white liner to draw the outline of your skull. Your first line should start above the cheekbone and go in a wave pattern (see above), ending just above your lip.

Drawing lines on face

For the second line, you are going to make a straight line under your first line, ending under your bottom lip.

Drawing lines on face

The third line will be just under your second line, and you are going to outline your jaw.

Drawing on skull teeth

14. Create the teeth

Using a thinner white pencil, for a more precise line, I am going to draw in the teeth of the skull.

Filling in the blank space

15. Fill in the blank space

This is where the demon skull look will start coming together. Using red face paint, fill in the areas between the white outlines.

Adding red eyeshadow to face

Using the same red eyeshadow you used on your eyelids, go over the red face paint to set it and enhance the color.

Outlining the white lines

16. Outline the white lines

Using a black liner, outline the white lines to really make them pop.

Adding sinew

17. Add sinew

For a little bit more of a gory Halloween makeup feel, add random black lines to resemble sinew.

Creating the skull nose

18. Create the nose

Use black eyeliner to draw in the shape of the nose.

Filling nose with black

Fill in the outline with black face paint.

Outlining nose

Outline with a thin white liner to add dimension.

Adding extra dimension

19. Add depth and dimension

Use a detailer brush and black shadow to underline the black lines, this will help create more of a 3D effect.

Adding red lipstick

20. Finish off

Add some red lipstick to the glam side of your face.

Adding highliter

As well as some highlighter.
