Easy Rockabilly Hairstyle Tutorial

Time to celebrate the springtime with a flirty and voluminous hairstyle that blurs the line between Rockabilly and Mod!
Perfect for that fabulous scarf you've bought but haven't yet worn! I hope you all love this style as much as I do.
Tools and materials:
- Hot roller set (or preferred curling tools)
- Hairspray
- Teasing brush
- Regular brush
- Pomade
- Bobby pins
- Silk scarf
1. Curl your hair
Use your favorite curling method to add volume at the start of this mod hairstyle. I’ve chosen to use medium and small hot rollers.
What’s important though is to focus on your setting pattern. At the middle, crown section, take the hair and roll it forward.
Then, on the sides and all through the back, roll the hair sideways to get more of a corkscrew curl, alternating between twisting each curl backward or forward.
This ensures that we don’t get one consecutive curl. To learn how to get the best curl out of your hot rollers, check out my video on Getting the Most Curl from a Hot Roller Set.
2. Open your curls
Remove whatever hair curling tools you chose. Then, before brushing through the curls, give them a good spritz with hairspray.
Next, go ahead and break those curls up with your fingers.
3. Backcomb to add volume to the top
Separate a thin section of hair at the back of the crown of your head and pull it forward.
Then, backcomb by brushing down the length of the hair.
Next, add a bit of hairspray.
Then continue to backcomb with another thin section of hair, in front of the first section. Add hairspray like before.
Continue to backcomb sections toward the front of your head, but leave out the bangs section.
4. Backcomb the bangs
Now, section off your bangs from the corners of your forehead. Bring the hair to the side and backcomb, adding hairspray at the end.
I know it looks really crazy right now, but this is what’s going to help us mold and define the rockabilly hairstyle.
5. Smooth the bangs and secure them in a roll
Lightly brush the top of your bangs to smooth them.
Brush the ends of the hair too, without undoing the backcombing.
Now, run a bit of pomade over the hair to add shine and calm the frizziness.
Pull the hair off to the side, roll it around 2 fingers and tuck the ends inward.
Then roll the curl down to your head, and you should be able to see through the curl.
Slide a bobby pin right where your fingers were holding the curl, to secure it in place.
Now, with your fingers, gently lengthen out the roll.
Add another bobby pin to secure the end of the roll so that it lays down to meet the hair at your temple.
Protect your eyes while applying more hairspray.
Then, while it’s still wet from the spray, run your hands over the roll to further calm the frizz.
6. Smooth the rest of the backcombed hair
Next, use your dense, backcombing brush to gently smooth over the rest of the hair behind the bangs.
Give it another spray and run your hands over it to smooth the frizz.
Then, at the back of your head, use your hands to gently lift and puff the hair upward.
7. Brush out and smooth the curls
Next, use a regular brush to quickly brush through the curls on both sides.
Then apply some pomade and run that through the hair.
8. Add pizazz
You can add a flower or clip but, today, I’ll show you how to add a scarf to this mod hairstyle.
Start by bringing the scarf to your neck, under the hair.
Then, grab a small section of hair in front of your ear and bring it forward.
Do this on the other side as well. Then bring the scarf up so that it hugs the back of your head and goes between those pieces of hair.
Pull the tails of the scarf off to the side to meet your part. Tie it once and hold it in place.
Then, pin the scarf in place with a bobby pin on either side of the knot.
Now, go ahead and tie a bow, pulling through until the ends are very short.
Then open up the bow to make it stand out more.
Adjust the hair slightly so that the scarf doesn’t obviously break up the flow of your hair.
Here’s the final mod hairstyle:
