I love the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the spooky characters make perfect Halloween costumes. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to do easy Sally costume makeup. I also did Jack's makeup in my last tutorial: How to Do Perfect Jack Skellington Face Makeup for Halloween.

If you don’t have much experience doing your own makeup for Halloween, don’t worry. This look is super easy to achieve at home, so you don’t need to be a makeup artist to do it.

Tools and materials:

  • Blue face paint
  • White powder
  • Dark blue and medium blue eyeshadows
  • Blue and white eyeliners
  • Black liquid eyeliner
  • Lipstick
  • Wig cap
  • Pink wig
Painting the face blue for the Sally makeup

1. Paint your face blue

Start by dipping your finger into your blue face paint and rubbing the paint around your face until it is covered in blue. You also want to work the blue paint all the way down your neck and onto any other parts of your skin that will be on show.

2. Brush on white powder

Dip a brush into some white powder and apply it over your whole face. Blend it in with the blue face paint.

3. Apply eyeshadow

Next, you’re going to apply some eyeshadow - dark blue for the outer lids and lighter blue on the inside. You also want to bring the dark blue color down underneath your eye.

Continue by applying some blue eyeliner to your lower lash line and some white eyeliner to your water line.

4. Apply liquid eyeliner

Apply some liquid eyeliner to the outer two-thirds of your lid and wing it up at the end. Proceed to draw on some thick, false lashes above and below your eye.

Applying dark red lipstick

5. Add lipstick

Next, apply some lipstick in a dark red color.

6. Draw the mouth

To get Sally’s distinctive mouth, take some liquid eyeliner and draw two lines from either side of your mouth, coming all the way up your cheeks.

Then, to get the scarred look, draw little lines across the mouth. Some of these lines are wonky, and others cross over each other.

7. Draw the scar line

Sally has another scar line that comes from her forehead and then diagonally cuts across one eye. Proceed to draw this on.

8. Apply more blue face paint

Apply more blue face paint to your cheeks and the other open areas on your face.

Drawing scar lines on the body

9. Draw more scar lines

Proceed to draw the scar lines across the neck and chest. These don’t have to be super neat; I have intentionally drawn mine a bit rough-handed.

Applying mascara

10. Apply mascara

Finish off the makeup look by applying some mascara.

11. Put on a wig

The last step is to tie your hair up, put on a wig cap and then put on a wig of Sally’s trademark red-orange hair.

I love, love, love the finished look! I am totally rocking the Sally Skellington look. I hope you’ll decide to go as Sally this Halloween, and if you have a partner or friend, they can go as Jack - this really is the perfect couple’s costume!
