How To Take Boring White Boots And Make Them Fun

You're about to throw out a pair of shoes you don't wear much because they're no fun to style...

But before you do, you get an idea! What if you could easily turn them into a whole new shoe?

Well guess what, you can!

And I'm here to show you how.

Here is the plain boot we'll be working with.

I got these a few years back in a secondhand store in New York.

But white scuffs easily and so I never wear them.

The first things we want to do are clean them and tape the edges!

Now you're ready to get started.

Here are my top tips for painting shoes:

  1. Use acrylic paint. This paint is flexible and won't crack after wear.
  2. Use water. You can either mix water directly into your paint before painting, ensure your brush is saturated, or go over the paint with strokes of just water. I tried all three methods, and each work well to blend the paint and remove stroke marks
  3. Finish with an acrylic finishing spray. While the paint wont crack, it can easily peel off if you don't lock it in. You can choose between a glossy or matte finish.
  4. Remove the tape before the paint dries. If you wait until the paint is dry, it may peel off with the tape!

Spray the shoes with a finishing spray. Do this outside and from a distance to be as safe as possible.

And now for the most satisfying part... remove the tape to reveal nice clean edges!

Let your boots dry for at least 24 hours.

And now, style them!

Let me know how your up cycle turns out.

Love,
