Tools and Materials

Tools and Materials:

  • Shorts
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Chalk
  • Sewing machine
  • Pins
Cut

Cut

Start by turning the shorts inside out and cutting out the inseam.

Cut Along the Seam

Try to remove as little fabric as possible.

Pin

Pin and Sew

Lay the shorts flat with the cut sides on either side. Add one pin to the bottom to make sure that nothing moves around too much.

Mark

Then using a ruler, mark from the edge of the bottom of the shorts at an angle to the top of the crotch. Make sure that it’s straight and gets rid of the parts that form the crotch of the shorts. This will allow the skirt to lie flat when you wear it.

Sew

Pin along this line and then sew along it as well. Make sure that the hem at the bottom matches up.

Trim

Trim

Trim off any excess fabric along the seam you just made.
